Best Beaches for Families on the Southeast Coast

Best Beaches

I love the southeast coast. From ideal secluded beaches to some of the top nightlife in the world, the southern coast of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina have some of the best beachfront property in the world. Every chance I get, I pack up the family (dog included) and drive up and down the southeast coast to find the best places to swim, barbecue or just to relax and get away from it all.

With so many great spots along the coast, it’s tough to pick out my favorite spots. After years of hit and miss beach adventures, my family and I have compiled this list of the best family beaches on the southeast coast. Visit one or visit them all, but either way you can bet you and your family are going to have the best beach road trip ever!

Edisto Beach State Park (In between Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC)

This family friendly beach destination is sure to please the entire family. These pristine beaches are much more secluded than their close big city neighbor; Savannah, Georgia. Even though it’s less than an hour from the city, Edisto Beach State park has all of the amenities for big family fun without the big city crowds. $17-$19 beachfront campsites make for some of the best-and cheapest camping in the state. Tent sites, full hookup RV sites and luxury cabins make sure that everybody’s idea of “roughing it” is well covered. Swimming, fishing, hiking and boating makes Edisto Beach State Park one of my favorite family friendly beaches on the southeast coast. Visit the Edisto Beach State Park website here for more information and reservations.

Fort Fisher State Recreation Area (Near Greenville, SC)

What better way to spend your day on some of the best beaches in South Carolina than exploring the sand dunes with your four wheel drive vehicle along the beach, swimming in the cool water of the Atlantic or paddling a kayak on the smooth backwaters and lagoons of the Cape Fear River? Fort Fisher State Park is close to the Greenville, South Carolina area, yet far enough away from the crowds of Myrtle Beach. Some of the best beaches, unique wildlife and fantastic fishing are here at this affordable and family friendly beach. Check out the Fort Fisher Website here for more information on fees and hours of operations.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park (Near Miami, FL)

South of Miami Beach (less than an hour away) are the beginning of the Florida Keys. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is the first underwater state park in the United States and offers a grand tour of some of Florida’s best underwater reefs. Whether you take the boat tour or swim and snorkel offshore at one of several beach areas in the park, amazing coral reefs and tropical fish lie in wait under these clear blue waters. Make your reservations here first because this amazing southeastern beach and campground often fill to capacity during the busy spring and summer months.
