Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans Review: The Perfect Gag Gift

bertie bott's, bertie bott's every flavor beans, Jelly Belly, Mugglenet

Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans are inspired by the Harry Potter novels and movies. True to the Harry Potter books, the jellybeans, created by Jelly Belly (the leading Jelly Bean company) consist of flavors such as earwax, dirt, rotten egg, black pepper, soap, and vomit among others. There are other flavors like banana, cherry and vanilla that do taste better mixed in, but most of the flavors really are awful.

For a complete list of the flavors offered check out this flavor guide:

So why would anyone want these awful little treats?

Well I conclude that the beans are a lot of fun. They are great as stocking stuffers, gag gifts, and often times fun for kids to enjoy playing around and tasting all of the flavors. Incidentally there is a lot of buzz about these jelly beans because the flavors are rather ridiculous, and the new Harry Potter movie is about to be released, but what it boils down to is that the beans themselves are fun to mess around with.

Imagine having a bunch of friends over and having a bowl full of these jelly beans sitting on your coffee table. The looks on their faces as they tried these particular jellybean flavors would surely induce fits of laughter and priceless faces. Give a friend black pepper or dirt and tell him/her it is chocolate flavor and take note of his face when that little treat hits his/her palate. Talk about an acquired taste.

Jelly Belly does offer a chart now for the colors of the beans and the flavors they represent so that if you do not want to eat the vomit jellybean you can stray away. Note: I refuse to try it, but some people that have said it did leave them nauseous and they could not get the awful taste out of their mouths for a couple of days.

I cannot stress enough that these beans really do taste like what they say. While I do not have the experience tasting many of these things so that I compare them, I am certain they are probably relatively accurate as well. They taste as awful as I imagine them tasting, that is for sure.

You can get a 1.75 oz box of these beans for right around $2.20 or so and so even if you find the beans absolutely repulsive and cannot convince anyone else to eat them for your sheer pleasure, you really are not out a lot of money.

In conclusion, these beans, inspired by Harry Potter, really do taste authentically bad, and they are awesome gag gifts. Watching people actually eat these things are not only loads of fun, but an absolute treat in itself. I recommend the beans to anyone who has a little kid left inside them, or anyone who wants to get revenge on somebody.
