Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Daily Moisturizer: Be Careful What You Put on Your Face !

Aveeno

After using an Aveeno lotion product and having wonderful results, I was more than eager to try out other Aveeno products. I am a big believer in moisturizers and even more so during winter. I found Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer at Wal-mart for 12.99. I thought this was a bit pricey for an over the counter moisturizer, but skin care is something that is important to me not to skimp on. I’ve used this product for almost a month now and I’ve found some good and then again some not so good results about this product.

ABOUT AVEENO POSITIVELY RADIANT DAILY MOISTURIZER

Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer is a daily moisturizer with SPF 15 (with UVA/UVB sunscreen) made by Johnson and Johnson. The moisturizer is oil free, hypoallergenic, and noncomedogenic. Aveeno combines Total Soy Complex and Natural Light Diffusers which basically is supposed to even out skin tone and immediately enhance your skins appearance. The moisturizer is a thick white cream with a pleasant smell. It comes in a 4 ounce tube and has a pump top dispenser. As with all Aveeno products, the front of the bottle states the “active naturals” in the moisturizer.

MY EXPERIENCE

The first thing that caught my attention was the scent of the moisturizer. It has a clean pleasant scent that seems to last for hours. It’s not really a strong perfume type scent, but more of a clean soapy scent. The scent is very strong when applying but lightens a bit after you apply. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how well you tolerate scents on your face. It didn’t bother me but there are those who would rather have no smell on their face. If you are one of those people, you certainly will be dissatisfied with this product.

When I first applied the moisturizer my face was completely white in the spots that I applied. I had/have to really the massage the moisturizer in heavily to make the white color completely disappear. After doing so I did notice an immediate difference as the product promises to do. My face looked and felt younger and a bit softer. I was so happy with the immediate results that I talked my husband into letting me try the product out on him. The moisturizer left more of a shinier effect on my huband’s face, but his face also looked a bit softer and younger as well. Over the next several days I continued to get good results and was convinced that I had finally found the perfect moisturizer.

After about a week of usage I started noticing a few things that were not present before. After applying, my face still had the soft results, but my skin became shiny looking. I looked like I rubbed cooking oil on my face then tried to wipe it off. I wasn’t convinced that it was the moisturizer just yet. The next day after washing my skin I used the moisturizer and once again I had the greasy and shiny look on my face. My face looked like I desperately needed a face washing with an maximun strength oil fighting soap. To top that off, a pimple formed on the bottom of my cheek after the second week of usage. I’m occasionally prone to a break out every now and then. However, I am almost sure that this break out was caused by Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer . I stopped using the moisturizer for a week. My face cleared up and it still felt soft so I thought I would give it one more try. I applied the moisturizer again and I had the same effects I did the first time I tried the product.

RECOMMENDATION

I will use Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer again, but I will never use it on a daily basis again. Because of this, I will not recommend this product. The moisturizer is intended for continuous daily usage but your skin pays for it if you use this moisturizer too often. This may be ok for people that have extremely dry skin, but for normal skin types you will more than likely end up regretting using this for too long. As I said though, I will use what is left of my last bottle every now and then when I need a quick pick me up to my face. Will I ever pay 12.99 for this moisturizer again? Absolutely not!
