Avalon Organics Deodorant

Antiperspirants, Avalon, Avalon Organics, Weleda

Our home is a green home. I like to use as many all natural products as possible. I believe there are too many toxic chemicals in many of our cleaning and personal care products, and I always look for good alternatives. They have to be effective and do the job though, or purchasing them is pretty senseless.

A company I have come to love is Avalon Organics. I use their skin care line and love it. After using and not being able to find Weleda All Natural Citrus deodorant, I decided to try Avalon Organics Lavender Deodorant. I love the scent of real lavender, so this purchase was perfect for me!

Product Description

The container looks like any normal roll on deodorant. It contains 3 ounces, so the size is pretty generous! The bottle is green with a black cap, and there is a picture of purple flowers on the front. Below that reads LAVENDER. The bottle states “Be relaxed and confident with all-day deodorant protection enriched with soothing Aloe and essential oil of Lavender.”

The liquid is clear, and as states, smells exactly like a bottle of lavender essential oil. It’s wonderful, one of those smells that makes you go “ahhhhh”.

Ingredients

Purified water, babassuamidopropalkonium chloride, hydroxyethylcellulose, Certified organic lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flower, calendula officinalis (calendula) flower, chamomilla recutita (chamomile) flower extracts, bisabolol (chamomile), ethylhexylglycerin, certified organic aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, sodium citrate, certified organic lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil, and other essential oils.

This is where Avalon Organics really shines! Look at those ingredients! There are no: propylene glycols, parabens, toxic preservatives, or synthetic fragrances. The ingredients are 100% vegetarian, and the company does NO testing on animals.

Does It Work?

Yes! As I stated earlier, buying an all-natural product wouldn’t do me much good, especially when they cost more, if they don’t work! I used this deodorant before playing golf in 80 degree weather, and it kept me smelling fresh for 3 hours it took to play nine holes. This deodorant is also hypoallergenic! This roll-on deodorant rolls on smoothly, leaving me feeling fresh and smelling slightly of lavender. I don’t even need to wear a perfume when I use this deodorant.

I haven’t found a product line this pure since I used Aubrey Organics products years ago. Avalon Organics are much easier to find, my local grocer stocks their products in their natural foods section. They aren’t that expensive either, I paid less than $4.00 for this, and I know I have spent nearly that amount for my husbands favorite store brand deodorant!

Avalon Organics Mission Statement

The source of their mission is Consciousness in Cosmetics. According to the labeling on my bottle of deodorant, they are a science-based company who are committed to providing pur organic based products, that are proven effective without testing them on animals ! This is really important to me! Aside from that, I don’t have to worry about harmful and harsh ingredients that get absorbed through my skin and into my body. Our bodies biggest organ is, in fact, the skin!

Deodorants vs. Antiperspirants

Antiperspirants and deodorants work completely different, and you need to be aware of the differences. The job of antiperspirants is to obstruct the pores in your armpit, thereby preventing the release of perspiration. Deodorants don’t block perspiration, but they do contain ingredients that will kill the bacteria that causes the odor. Antiperspirants have come under fire in the last 5 years, some professionals are concerned by ingredients that are used, mainly the aluminum compounds. Some researchers believe that the aluminum can untimately build up in the brain and is a possible contributing factor to Alzheimer’s disease. Others believe there is a link between antiperspirants and breast cancer. I’ve also read that since antiperspirants don’t allow the skin to breathe, toxins can build up and lead to disease.

This information would lead us to believe that the smartest choice would be to use deodorants. Well, there are only a few deodorants that I would deem safe for ME. Because there are also studies showing that deodorants containing parabens also may contribute to breast cancer. These findings are from autopsies of women who died of breast cancer, where parabens were actually found in their breast tissue. Breast tissue is largly fat, and when toxins build up in our fatty tissues, they tend to hang around for years and are hard for the body to purge.

Avalon Organics uses no aluminums, no parabens, and no propylene glycol (an liquid derived from natural gas). We all have the power to choose which products we want to use, and make our own decisions about that products safety. I don’t know if the warnings and findings about antiperspirants are true, but I choose to err on the side of caution.

My Avalon Orgaincs deodorant keeps me smelling fresh, is readily available, and doesn’t cost much more to use. I can’t think of any reasons not to buy it.
