Ashanti: Top Ten Classics

Ashanti

Ashanti is an American R&B; singer who has had major success working with the likes of Irv Gotti and Ja Rule. She has 4 solo albums under her belt, 3 of which that has gone platinum. These are my top ten Ashanti songs, In no kind of order, because I love everything that Ashanti has put out.

10. Rain on me. Rain on me has a certain significance to it. This song is related to domestic violence, which Ashanti raises awareness for. I love this song so much, because of the mid tempo feel to it. And her calling on god to help her shows that she is human, and not just a spoiled celebrity.

9. The way that I love you. As soon as this song starts, you just start automatically vibing to it. It’s fresh and in your face, and the piano playing in the background only makes this song ten times better. It’s like she’s demanding: Your gonna listen to me! Ashanti is singing her heart out, and you can definitely hear the passion and growth in her voice.

8.What’s Luv. Adding Ashanti’s voice to this Fat Joe track gives this song a meaningful purpose. With her breathy vocals, Ashanti demands to know the answer to her question “What’s Luv?” Then tells you her answer. My favorite part of the song is when she sings her verse. It’s very sassy and classy, and she also looked amazing in the video. This song basically gave her the Beatles record of 3 songs in the top ten at the same time. Good job Ashanti.

7.Always on time. Always on time basically introduced Ashanti to the music business. The single peaked at number one on Billboards top 200, and stayed there for a minute. Listen to the chorus “Im not always there when you call, but I’m always on time.” I mean you have to really be devoted to someone to be always on time. When this song first came out I put it on repeat for about an hour. This will always be a classic to me.

6.Baby. I love baby so much, because it sort of has this Mary J Blige feel to it. No one in this industry can say baby like Ashanti, and she knows that. That’s why she doesn’t mind using it so much. This is a sexy song and a true R&B; track. It makes you want to go and find your baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. Two words: SEXY DIVA!

5.Happy. This rendition of the Gap Band’s outstanding really set the bar for Ashanti. The vocals are fresh, and the feel of it is fun and melodic. As she sings “So glad, that you fell in love with me,” it makes you wish that she falls in love with the guy of her dreams, and live happily ever after. It has that new york feel to it, and that’s what I feel the r&b; genre needs now a days.

4.GOOD GOOD. “Cause when I say I got that pop, lock, and drop it believe me.” Tell em’ girl. This song is so fly, I don’t care what no one says, Ashanti is sick with the pen, and good good shows that perfectly. I honestly believe that she should put out an album full of songs like this one. This should’ve been another number one single. She went to Jermain Dupri and got an outstanding track. This song is definitely GOOD GOOD.

3.Ohh Ahh. This song was not released as a single, but it could’ve been. Ohh Ahh is just so sexy, you’ll want to repeat it over and over. When she sings the bridge you just be like “OH MAN!!” It’s sultry and heartfelt, and is number 15 on her multi-platinum album Chapter 2. With tracks like this one, Ashanti will last in the music business forever.

2.Rock wit u(Aww Baby). Aww Baby!! This song is nothing less than incredible. She really outdid herself on this track, and you can hear the passion in her voice. I love this song, because it’s addictive. Th live instruments, her riding on an elephant, and the whole beach vibe. Her frolicking on the beach looking like a true goddess makes the video sparkle. I feel that Ashanti is talking to me, and I was the baby in “AWW BABY.”

1.Foolish. This song is definitely classified as a certified street anthem. This song is like a breath of fresh air for R&B; lovers like myself. I just couldn’t get enough of this Ashanti/Biggie classic. When this song came out everybody jumped ship from their favorite artist. I will always love this song dearly, and she definitely deserves every ounce of success she gets. Ashanti is a true natural talent both ways, singing and writing. She is a force to be reckoned with. Other R&B; chicks watch out, Ashanti will be back on top to claim what is rightfully hers. You know how she do.
