Affordable Party Ideas for the Holidays

Party season is on and it’s time to prepare for the upcoming festivities. Cleaning the house and organizing closet space is only the first chore at hand. There’s planning to do to get ready for any party you might throw this season. The economy is forcing many companies to give up holiday bonus or party plans. Don’t let being a little short of pocket change keep you from being the host or hostess you’ve always been. There are plenty of ways to throw a great party without spending a fortune.

Planning ahead is essential. The only way you’re going to find everything you need at a great price is to plan ahead and buy when things are on sale. Start out by making a list of the things that are absolute necessities for your party. Try to keep your list very simple and straight forward. That case of expensive liquor that you normally put out for doesn’t need to be on your list this year. Prepare by buying cutlery and dish ware early. Napkins and tablecloths can both be purchased at most stores that charge one dollar for everything in the store. After filling your first list, you can concentrate on the more pricey things needed to throw a decent party. Here’s a few ideas to save you some cash this season.

Buy pop in two liter bottles only :
Depending on the size of your party, you could save a small fortune just by following this rule. Pop has become so expensive that to purchase cans for a large party, you’d have to make quite an investment. Be smart about this and purchase many two liter bottles of pop. Keep food decorative instead of pricey :
It’s so easy to make simple foods look elegant with a little imagination. A salad may seem almost too simple for a party but when you make it a lettuce and tomato salad with white cheese, you’ve got a festive Christmas salad. You don’t have to spend a fortune on the finest meats or cheese. Just be sure to make each dish appropriately festive looking. Even a vegetable tray can be special just by making sure the vegetables you include are holiday colors. To save on cheese, purchase inexpensive cheese and get out your cookie cutters. When you cut out shapes from the slices and display them on a platter, your inexpensive cheese will suddenly be a treat everyone’s talking about.

Construction Paper Decorations :
For about two dollars you can go to any store that has school supplies and purchase a book of construction paper. Don’t worry if you’re not very creative or artistic. All you have to do is get on the Internet and print out some simple shapes. Cut the shapes out and place them over your construction paper and cut the same shape. You can decorate an entire house this way and it will look adorable. To save even more and have less waste, use the smaller left over pieces of construction paper with your cookie cutters. You can trace the shapes onto the construction paper and cut them out . Poke a hole through the very top of each shape and use colored yarn to display them about your house.

Put your Paper Shredder to good use :
Confetti is just fun at parties. If you go to purchase it at a party supply store, you’ll find they sell it in very small bags and charge quite a price for it. You can make your own confetti just by putting your paper shredder to work. Invest no more than two dollars into some brightly colored sheets of paper. Run them through your paper shredder till you have enough to decorate your tables. You can also use the shreds to brighten up and decorate and gift bags you’ve made. It’s a very simple way to save some money and still keep your parties looking very festive.
