The summertime is the best time to kick back and crank up some great summer music. Whether you’re in your car or hanging out in your house, when you hear a good tune, you just have to turn it up full blast and sing along. Beautiful weather and great music tend to put people into feel good mode almost instantly. Here are some great summer songs to help you get into the summer spirit.
Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison
An oldie but definite goody, this song always puts me in a good mood. The fact that my dad has called me his brown-eyed girl since I was little, combined with that catchy “sha la la la” at the end makes this song a definite summer favorite of mine.
Summer Time by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
I know, this one’s another fairly old song. But it brings back so many great memories of summer’s past. Every summer when this song comes on the radio I have to turn it up and reminisce about the awesome summers I have had with great friends that I never get to see anymore.
Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake
You have to admit, summer is a very sexy time of year. You have people running around with less clothing than usual, men playing all types of sports with no shirts on, lots of tan bodies and short-shorts, etc. What better song to pay homage to the sexiness of summer than JT’s Sexy Back. For someone like me who is shy this song makes me want to loosen up and let my hair down this summer.
Drop It Like It’s Hot by Snoop Dog and Pharell
I love playing this song loud, but I especially love cranking it up in my car. It’s a great laid back kind of song and whenever I hear it I feel like laying my seat back, bobbing my head and cruising the neighborhoods at 10 mph so that everyone else can hear it too and bob right along with me.
Lean Back by Terror Squad
This is a great club song and whenever I hear it I want to get all my girls together and hit the clubs. Summertime seems to be the perfect time to party like crazy, and I guarantee whether you hit a club or a house party you’ll hear this song play at least once.
Summer Lovin’ by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John (Grease)
I am not ashamed to admit that I will rock out to any Grease song on the soundtrack. But my favorite is this one. It makes me think of all those boys I had crushes on when I was a teenager, and all my past summertime flings when I was in Junior High (I mean flings as in the PG version, not the X rated one). It’s a great song to reminisce to, and for those of you who are brave enough, it’s a great song to make a fool of yourself with on charaokee night (don’t ask how I know that).
The Thong Song by Sisqo
This was a great club song when it first came out and even now it makes people want to get up and shake their thong…I mean thang. This song fits so well with the whole summertime theme simply because most bikinis consist of itty-bitty tops and barely there thongs. It’s not uncommon anymore to see a thong or two when going to the beach, on both women and men. Whenever I see someone in a thong bikini at the beach, this song automatically pops into my head.
No Scrubs by TLC
Summertime tends to bring everyone outdoors, including those annoying “Hey baby, can I get your number?” type of guys. If you’re cruising along in your car and a car pulls up beside you with one of these morons in it trying to hit on you, blast this song at him and watch his smile turn into a frown real quick. I guarantee you’ll get a great laugh out of it.
So these are my picks for great summer songs that get me into the spirit of the season. No matter what type of mood I am in on a hot summer day, any one of these songs is sure to put me in feel good mode with the first note.
