Makeup Review: MAC Shadestick

Translucent Powder

For all you makeup guru’s out there, you know the difficulty of choosing a makeup online. It’s never certain if the product will be worth your hard earned money or not. If you’re looking to purchase makeup online and have no idea if it will be worth it or not, check here for more info!

I have been a makeup guru all my life and have been testing and reviewing products for the last five years. Each review is broken down into easily understood categories. Today we’re taking a look at MAC’s Shadestick.

The Look (5 stars out of 5)

Shadestick is shaped similar to lipstick (more like a lipstick pencil). Remove the pull off cap and twist the bottom to get more shadow. There is plenty of product and a little goes a long way. Shadestick comes in 1.5 grams per stick.

Color: (4 stars out of 5)

I was rather disappointed when I saw the color selection. Currently MAC only has four colors available: Beige-ing, Shimmersand, Gentle Lentil, and Taupographic. All of the colors are matte tones. A lot of people use these colors to go under their eyeshadow as a base.

Using Shadestick as a base will help your shadow stay longer throughout the day. It will also help bring out rich tones in the eyeshadow you are using. These are very pigmented colors but I gave the color section 4 stars because I really wish there were more colors available.

Texture: (4.5 stars out 5)

Shadesticks are a cream eyeshadow. I have not really experienced any problems with creasing myself, but I know other people who have. If you have oily skin, the oils on your eyelids may cause the shadestick to smear or crease with time. I would highly recommend applying an eyelid primer before applying shadestick if you experience creasing problems.

Another way to help your shadestick last longer (if you are not using shadow over top) is to apply a loose translucent powder over top to help set it in. Do not coat the powder on. Lightly brush it over top just to set the product.

Shadestick can easily be blended out. It is a very nice creamy texture that works easily when warmed up. I typically use my finger to apply this cream because it goes on smoother.

Application life: (4.5 stars out of 5)

I was very happy with the application life. It is not the best, but it is pretty good. I got approx. 5 hours of full wear without doing anything to prolong the life. If you use a primer underneath the shadestick, you will get approx. 7 hours of full wear. If you apply a light dust of translucent powder overtop, you will also get approx. 7 hours of full wear.

I would simply play around with the product and find what works best for you. Some people have problems with constant creasing and others don’t. It will all depend on you. If you work with the product you will find a way to work with it.

All-in-all, I really do like this product and it is worth a try. If you are looking for something as a base or you just want to try something new I would defiantly give Shadestick a shot. This product received an overall rating of 4.5 stars out of 5.
