Durabrand Waffle Maker – Cheap, but is it Worth It?

Durabrand, Waffle Maker, Waffles

This past summer I set out to buy a waffle maker, knowing homemade waffles would cost considerably less than name brand waffles. Loving the taste, and looking for convenience, I thought it’d be a great idea to make waffles at home for pennies on the dollar. After pricing several of them, I came across the Durabrand Waffle Maker at Wal-Mart one day. Wondering if it worked as well as the more expensive brands, I decided to pick one up since the cost was $10. Figuring it would die an early death as most cheap appliances would, I thought I’d take the chance anyway. Here are my thoughts on the Durabrand Waffle Maker.

Loving the taste of waffles has been a lifelong thing, but being on a budget, it was next to impossible to satisfy my waffle cravings. With the cost of a box of waffles being over $3, and a family who loves them as much as I do- it would break the bank to continuously purchase boxes of waffles.

Looking online one day I found a recipe for homemade waffles. Intrigued by this idea, it started me on the quest for a waffle maker. Knowing I could make a batch of waffles, which is roughly 10-12 waffles, for approximately 25 cents, was all the motivation I needed.

I wandered into Wal-Mart and started my search. With a roll full of waffle makers, being priced upwards of $25, I picked up the lowly Durabrand Waffle Maker for a mere $10.

Skeptical as to the life of the Durabrand Waffle Maker, I figured I could afford to lose the $10 if it didn’t hold up.

I rushed home to whip up a batch of mix, and promptly fired up my Durabrand Waffle Maker. I was a little unimpressed on the size of the waffles, but it was workable. They cooked incredibly quickly so it made up for the time it took making only two at the time.

Cooking waffles on the Durabrand Waffle Maker was so easy that I’ve enlisted my daughter to cook them for me. You do have to be careful of the surface, which will burn, but it’s been an enjoyable experience for her and she loves to make them. They cook so quickly, that it takes virtually no time to cook up a bunch of waffles that you can freeze and use later on.

Since I love my Durabrand Waffle Maker so much, when the time comes that it goes on to greener pastures, I will definitely chip in another $10 and buy another Durabrand Waffle Maker. It’s living a long life so far, and worth the less amount of upfront cost than the more expensive brands.
