Suede is a popular material used in the cold months to make countless products. Suede is actually the hide of an animal and is sturdy and long lasting. The fabric can be as delicate as silk. It’s vulnerable to stains. Oil stains can be troublesome for suede. The properties of oil make it hard to remove from suede. Because suede is skin, it acts the same way skin does when you apply lotion or oils to it. Using the right products and techniques it is still possible to get an oil stain out of suede, without destroying the beauty of the item.
Things you’ll need:
* Corn-starch or talcum powder
* Rags
* Distilled white vinegar
* Bowl
* Old toothbrush
* Mineral spirits
* Art gum eraser
* Suede brush
Step 1
Mix corn-starch and talcum powder together. Then apply the dry mixture directly to the oil stain. Tap the power mixture into the oil with you index finger. This encourages the oil to absorb the oil from the suede item. You should allow the mixture to sit and absorb the oil for a minimum of 1 hour. If you can allow the stain to be absorbed for a longer period of time then you should.
Step 2
Take a clean, dry wash cloth and gently brush the powder from the suede. Use the wash cloth to make sure that all remnants of the oil and powder and removed from the suede item.
Step 3
Pour some white distilled vinegar in a dish. Place a toothbrush in the vinegar. Apply the vinegar-soaked toothbrush to the oil stain on the suede item. Rub the stain gently using small circles.
Step 4
Take a clean dry wash cloth and blot the wet spots on the suede item. Remove as much excess moisture as possible. Allow the suede to dry naturally. Look at your suede garment to ensure that there are no more oil spots.
Step 5
If you find that the oil stain is still present there is another option. Place some mineral spirits on a clean cloth. Wipe the mineral spirits over the oil stain. Add more of the cornstarch and talcum powder mixture over the mineral spirits. This time wait several hours for the mineral spirits and powder mixture to dry. Wipe off all the reside one dry with a dry cloth.
Step 6
Re use the white distilled vinegar-soaked toothbrush. Rub the stain with the toothbrush in small circular motions. Repeat this process as needed to remove the oil stain.

You have the option as using an art gum eraser to remove oil form suede. Using this eraser can be damaging to the item itself if used improperly. Take great care when using an art gum eraser. Absorb as much oil as can be by using the absorbent power mixture. Then, gently rub the eraser of the oil stain until it is no longer visible. Don’t rub too hard or you could damage your suede items.
Step 8
Restore the suede by brushing with a suede brush.
