Are you headed to Florida’s Lake Okeechobee for a little camping and fishing this summer? If so, you may want to check out my picks for the best five campgrounds in the area. Each one is close to the lake and offers great amenities. Here they are:
1. Okeechobee KOA
The Okeechobee KOA is located in Okeechobee. It is less than a mile from Lake Okeechobee and offers level campsites that will accommodate RVs up to 60 feet long. It is one of my favorite campgrounds because of its amenities. The campground features a hot tub, an outdoor pool, tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course, miniature golf and a fitness center. Based on my experience, the owners keep the park clean and the staff is friendly. Rates tend to start at $49 a night for a pull-thru and advance reservations are advisable.
2. Okee-Tantie Campground
The Okee-Tantie Campground is located right on the lake in Okeechobee. It offers visitors excellent access to the water. I find the onsite bait and tackle shop convenient. There’s also a fuel dock and boat ramp on premise in case you want to bring your own boat along. It opens daily and rates vary.
3. Roland and Mary Ann Martin’s Marina and Resort
Roland and Mary Ann Martin’s Marina and Resort in Clewiston is another place that I would recommend. In my opinion, the sites are well maintained, level and affordably priced. A full-hook up will typically cost you $35 a night. As an avid angler, what I love most about it is its proximity to Lake Okeechobee. It is located on the shoreline and you can rent a boat onsite. I would, however, urge you to make your reservations as far in advance as possible. Sites tend to go quick!
The Torry Island Campground and Marina is located outside of Belle Glade. I found it to be a superlative site in terms of services. I am particularly fond of the six lane boat ramp, lake access and onsite bait and tackle shop. It is perfect for campers who want to enjoy fishing, boating and golfing. Prices vary and I wouldn’t try getting in there without making an advance reservation.
5. Crooked Hook RV Resort
The Crooked Hook RV Resort in Clewiston is definitely worth consideration. It is quiet and the sites are nice and flat. I also love the onsite amenities. My favorite are the fish cleaning station, the heated pool and the cutesy barbecue area complete with a tiki hut. It always makes me want to grab a fruity drink with an umbrella garnish sticking out of it. You may opt for a grassy or concrete paved site. Personally, I have found both to be pleasant. You will definitely need reservations and rates vary by the season.
