10 Kid Friendly Activities in Las Vegas

Blue Man Group

So here you are in dazzling Las Vegas. The lights, the sounds, the gambling… the kids! Maybe you have planned a family vacation to Las Vegas or perhaps you are just passing through. Either way, it is hard not to be mesmerized by the glitz and glamour. But where can you take the kids that will safely entertain them, as well as you? Here’s a list of my top 10 kid-friendly activities in and around Las Vegas that are sure to bring a smile to their faces and yours.

1. Sky Mania – Can you imagine an entire gymnasium filled with interlocking trampolines? Yes, even the walls! Jumping fun for everyone, including a toddler-only trampoline room. Most visitors book an hour’s jumping time, which is plenty because you’ll be tired! One of my favorite places of all time. I did my first back flip at Sky Mania! http://www.skymaniafuncenters.com

2. Red Rock Canyon – Just a few miles west of the strip is one of Las Vegas’ best kept outdoor secrets. From a lazy stroll through a striking red and white sandstone canvas to technical rock climbs, this National Conservation Area has something for everyone. http://www.redrockcanyonlv.org

3. Hoover Dam – Yes, it really is that close to Las Vegas! Maybe you would enjoy just a drive-over and some photo opportunities or to take an official tour into the actual dam. This is a must-see for any Las Vegas visitor. http://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/index.html

4. Circus Circus ® Adventure Dome – Get ready to roll! Roller coasters, that is. The Adventure Dome features several full-sized, knock-your-socks-off rides along with many smaller attractions such as: laser tag, bumper cars, and even miniature golf. It’s big, but not too big. A one-day pass will let you do everything at least once, and several turns on your favorite rides. http://www.adventuredome.com

5. M&M;’s World ® – Okay, it is just a store. But it feels like an activity! Four stories of this fun-filled store showcase anything and everything M&M;’s®. From custom-made candy colors to a dining room set… you name it, they have it. Don’t miss the ice-cream parlor and a free 3-D mini-movie. http://www.mymms.com/merchandise/las_vegas.asp

6. Lied Discovery Children’s Museum – Do your kids enjoy hands-on fun? Would darling Susie love to put her annoying little brother inside a huge soap bubble? This is just the place to spend your afternoon. Learning about science is just a bonus at this interactive museum. http://www.ldcm.org/

7. Blue Man Group – A high-quality show that is actually family friendly. I have experienced several production shows that claimed to be family friendly, but apparently what some consider acceptable content for kids is quite different from my definition of ‘acceptable. Blue Man Group is the exception. Not only is it clean, but it is a barrel of fun for all ages. Audience participation is one of the best parts. http://www.venetian.com/BlueManGroup/index.cfm

8. Tournament of Kings – The Excalibur Hotel has many kid-themed activities, and this dinner show is one of the best. Cheer for your favorite knight with real horses, real dinner, and real fun! http://excalibur.com/entertainment/tournament_of_kings.aspx

9. Fremont Street Experience – Many high-dollar renovations in recent years in the downtown area have made the Fremont Street Experience one of the top destinations in Las Vegas. Come down during the evening and enjoy various street vendors “performing” their talents such as spray-painting masterpieces and rice-writing. There will often be bands playing on weekends and the light show on the outdoor ceiling is unforgettable. http://www.vegasexperience.com/

10. Kids Quest – How about a place for the kids to go for a while so the grownups can have some fun? Children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old can enjoy this play-care center. Video game rooms, karaoke, and a huge indoor playground are just a few of the activities your children can choose from. Professionally trained staff, certified in CPR and first aid with locations in many hotels around the Las Vegas valley. http://www.kidsquest.com/
