When it comes to finding an affordable neighborhood in New York City it can seem like an impossible task. There are however plenty of New York City Neighborhoods which are affordable and great for families. Following is a list of those neighborhoods.

The first neighborhood on the list is Sunnyside Queens New York. This area is considered to be a middle class neighborhood. They have three bedroom single family homes that are priced reasonable. And you can even find apartment rentals for $1000. If you want to purchase a co-op or an apartment you can find plenty fro around $100,000. Most of the apartments and studios located in this area also include utilizes which will help with your expenses as well. You will find several six story brick apartment buildings in this area with prices starting at $800 to $1700 for rent. They even have a planned community section that has amazing brick homes with yards. You are also only about fifteen minutes by train or even less by car to Manhattan. You will also find plenty of delis, bakeries, and ethnic restaurants in the area. It is also one of the only places that has a 24hour Home Depot store. The traffic is not bad especially when compared with other areas in New York City. As for the schools there is P.S 150 which has about 1200 students and is the elementary school in the area. There is also P.S. 11 and P.S. 199 for the high grade levels. This neighborhood is still growing quickly so many say the price of housing will continue to increase so it is best to get in early.

Next on the list is New York City’s Upper East Side. Many know this area as a very rich and luxurious area to live. What many don’t know is that there is a section that is affordable. The boundaries of the upper east side go from 59th to 96th street. In this area you will see plenty of huge old mansions, and very expensive stores such as Barney’s located on the streets. Just east of Lexington Avenue is where many find affordable places to live in a nice area. They have plenty of co-ops, condos, and townhouses that are quite affordable. One thing that should be mentioned is than many of the homes in this area are a little small than others in New York City. The rental prices in this area start at $1,150 and can go as high as $11,000 a month. To purchase a home you can expect to pay a lot more. This one section of the neighborhood is affordable to those just looking to rent something small and simple. You will find plenty of places to eat in the area as well. there is the Atlantic Grill which is located at 1341 Third Avenue, and the Café Boulud which is located at 20 East 76th street. there are also plenty of shops in the area including the very famous Prada located at 841 Madison Avenue. The school sin the area are some of the best schools in New York City, so if you lie in the affordable section your kids will get a great education. There is also a museum in the area and plenty of playgrounds. The traffic is not bad when compared with the traffic in the rest of New York City.

Brooklyn is another nice neighborhood where you can find plenty of affordable places to live. The rents in some areas can start as low at $900 but you have to know where to look. Your best option would be to hire a real-estate agent to find affordable housing for you. In Brooklyn you will find a lot of older homes that are very large. Brooklyn is considered to be very large and is split into five different districts. As for traffic you can count on plenty of it, but since most people tend to take public transportation you really don’t have much to worry about. As for schools and education there is the Brooklyn College which is in the area and Brooklyn law school. Their public schools are not great and lack a little in the area of academics but they have been making improvements over the years.
