Quick Easy Dinner Rolls

Sweet Rolls, Yeast Rolls

The recipe for these dinner rolls was a Godsend. I happened to find it while search the internet for yeast rolls. The quick and easy part caught my eye but when I saw the ingredients I wasn’t very impressed. Then I browsed through the comments and people simply raved on and on about them.

Since they were so simple and I was getting ready to make dinner, I decided to give it a try. My family swooped down on them before I even got them to the table. They loved them! They wanted them again the next night and they still ask for them.

Personally, I think they’re okay but they taste more like biscuits than rolls and I really don’t care much for biscuits. Nevertheless, my family loved them and they’re so easy to make. There are only 4 ingredients.

1 cup of self-rising flour
1/2 cup of milk
2 table spoons of mayonnaise

Simply mix it together, pour into a lightly-greased muffin pan (6) and bake at 350 for 15 minutes. That’s it! There’s no fuss or bother to it.

The tops don’t brown very well and although it didn’t bother my family, it bothered me. So now, I bake them for about 10 minutes then turn the oven to broil and brown the tops. They turn out much better. Either way they make great rolls that go with any meal.

They’re also versatile. You can add cheese such as parmesan, or add herbs such as garlic, oregano, basil, or you can substitute Miracle Whip for the mayo or soft margarine or butter.

You can also make sweet rolls with this recipe. Use soft margarine or butter rather than mayonnaise and add 1/4 cup of sugar and a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, or nutmeg, pumpkin spice, ginger, or practically any spice that suites your fancy.

I made cinnamon rolls and added raisins. When they came out of the oven, I dipped the tops in melted butter (or use the spray butter) and dipped them in cinnamon sugar. They turned out very good. I suppose you could add any kind of fruit. Hard fruit like apples may need to be pre-cooked but applesauce should work very well or any canned fruit.

At any rate, the basic recipe is a fabulous idea for quick and easy dinner rolls. I couldn’t believe how nice they came out and how easy they were to prepare. Add to that the reaction of my family and you can understand why I think they are the best find I’ve made so far as recipes go.

You might as well try it. We’re talking about a cup of flour, a little milk and a couple spoonfuls of mayonnaise. What do you have to lose?

Don’t let the tops turn you off. They don’t brown very well but they brown lightly around the bottom. If you have the time and are picky about your cooking, move them up to the highest rack and turn the oven to broil for the last five minutes. It’s not really necessary though. They’re fine just the way they are.
