8 Great Ideas for Using Concrete Pavers

What can you do with concrete pavers? Just about anything. You can dress up a walkway or create a patio deck. Concrete pavers are very versatile. They come in many shapes, sizes and colors. Here are eight great ideas for using them in your yard.

• Individual Paver Pathways

The easiest way to use pavers is to create a simple pathway with individual pieces like stepping stones through your yard. Whether you use round, square or odd-shaped pavers, you can set them in the ground to form a straight or winding trail wherever you want to lead your guests.

• Offset Paver Pathway

A simple, yet attractive way to use rectangular pavers is to let one half of the pavers touch in the middle and offset the other half in an alternating path. This design puts a paver in just the right place for each foot as you navigate your landscape and it creates an interesting pattern when you allow grass or ground cover to grow in the spaces along the sides.

• Mondo Grass and Pavers

Mondo grass is king when you pair it up with large, square pavers. Lay your pavers in a square or diagonal pattern with about four inches of space between them. Then plant grass to crop up and create a ground sculpture in your yard.

• Plants and Pavers

Just like using grass between pavers, you can place low, flowering plants in wide or narrow spaces between individual pavers for a unique and colorful patio treatment. For example, image tufts of luscious purple and green thyme peeking up through the pieces.

• Pavers and Gravel

For a low maintenance paver option, set your pavers in a bed of pea gravel. Use pavers in a color that will contrast with the gravel create an interesting setting for a patio or pool deck.

• Inlaid Pavers on Your Pool Deck

Another option for your pool deck is to lay pavers tightly together like tile. Start shopping for pavers and you’ll be amazed at the colors and shapes you can purchase. And a large expanse of pavers around your pool will create a solid surface that won’t crack like poured concrete.

• Pavers on Your Driveway

If you’re looking for a stunning driveway, consider using concrete pavers. The look is so elegant; you’ll increase your home’s curb appeal and value the instant the pavers installed.

• Paver Platforms

Did you know you can actually build platforms with concrete pavers to match a driveway or patio? It’s true – although it’s probably not a do-it-yourself project for the average homeowner. A licensed contractor can build a raised platform or terrace that could be the highlight of the entry to your home.
