Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon captivated the world’s attention before she was even born. When Madonna announced that she was pregnant in April 1996, critiques and media wonderment about her impending motherhood abounded.
Lourdes, nicknamed Lola, was born that October, and now 14 years later she’s making a name for herself and seems like an awesome young gal. Mama Madonna is no doubt proud that she raised a great kid even though many out there were skeptical that Madonna’s reasons for having children were for self-promotion or other selfish pursuits. We’ve seen glimpses of Lola as she was growing up but now that she’s entered teen-hood her star power and awesomeness has exploded. She’s started a fashion line with her mom called “Material Girl” and she’s entered high school at the prestigious LaGuardia also known as the “Fame” school where she’s honing her acting and dancing skills. 5) Lourdes is a regular teen who’s embarrassed by mom
Even though her mom is superstar Madonna, Lola seems like a normal teen when it comes to how she sometimes feels about parents. Lola occasionally posts on the Material Girl blog. In her post last December she wrote: “I read this blog aloud to my mother and she is sitting here staring at me with no expression on her face, as if she doesn’t approve of it! So now you all know what I have had to put up with for the past 14 years of my life.” Lola definitely puts Madonna into a different light and it’s very refreshing to see.
4) Lourdes speaks French and Spanish
Lourdes attended the Lycee Francais in London and New York, and her father Carlos Leon is of Cuban decent. If being fluent in three languages was not enough People Magazine reported she was also learning Hebrew. 3) Lourdes rides her bike and takes the subway
Lola probably gets this from her parents. Father Carlos Leon rides his bike or walks to get to places he told People Magazine. And Madonna was caught riding the New York City subway last October.
2) Lourdes is tres fashionable
Lola has managed to stand out with her own funky style; which considering is a hard feat to do especially if you are posing next to Madonna. At the Material Girl launch Lola looked cool in a black mini dress, plaid shirt, studded leather jacket, ripped stripped tights and boots. She’s also been spotted out in brightly colored tights, Converse sneakers, headbands, stripped socks and nerd glasses. Check out some of her style here.
1) Lola is her mother’s daughter
C’mon, of course Lola is awesome, she’s Madonna’s daughter. And Lola seems to be grounded and hardworking just like mom. Madonna proved to herself and to the world that she is a good mother by raising such a grounded but still cool teen. Lola is only 14 but the most wild thing she seems to have done so far is dye her already dark-brown hair a bit darker and get a second ear piercing. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to see if Lola will get as wild and crazy as Madonna did, but so far it doesn’t seem like Lola will turn into a Lindsey Lohan.
