Throughout the Unites States, Independence Day is celebrated nationally as a remembrance of the date in which the Declaration of Independence was signed, formally announcing the separation of the United States from England. Northern Colorado is a great place to experience Independence Day, with wide-open skies and mild summer temperatures.
The City of Fort Collins supports a lively day-long Independence Day celebration, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the 30th Annual Old Timer’s Game held at the City Park North ball field. The event showcases the way baseball was played in the good old days. Starting at 11:00 a.m., Old Town Square kicks off the July 4th festivities with live music, a beer garden and all-American good times. Events in Old Town wrap up at 6:00 p.m., and the party moves to City Park, with live music by Fierce Bad Rabbit and the Fort Collins Symphony. The free fireworks display begins at 9:35 p.m., located on the south side of the Hill at City Park, on the corner of Sheldon and Mulberry. All events are free and open to the public.
Loveland
Celebrating the 4th of July in Loveland begins at 10:00am with a flag raising at the historic Lone Tree School House. The Fife & Drum Corps will have the honors of raising the American Flag to kick off Loveland’s July 4th Celebration. Ongoing festivities revolve around the free day-long event held at North Lake Park, 29th Street & Taft Avenue. Situated against scenic Lake Loveland, events include food and game booths sponsored by nonprofit community organizations, mini train rides, live entertainment. At 8 p.m the “Star Spangled Spectacular” concert begins at the amphitheater, followed by Northern Colorado’s largest and longest fireworks show, sponsored by Loveland Fire and Rescue and the City of Loveland. The free fireworks display begins at 9:17 p.m. This year’s fireworks will be approximately 30 minutes in length, and culminate with a finale of close to 500 shots. All events are free and open to the public.
The Greeley Stampede is a rich tradition, celebrating heritage dating back to the late 1800’s. The Greeley Stampede runs June 24-July 4th and is held at Island Grove Park. On its final day, July 4th celebrations begin with a free parade through downtown Greeley starting at 9 a.m. Events at the Greeley Stampede include a carnival, rodeos and free live music throughout the day, wrapping up with a free live concert by country music entertainer Darryl Worley. Admission to the Greeley Stampede is free for kids under 6; $2 for kids 6-12 or adults over 61, and adults are $5. All rodeo and concert tickets include park admission entry. The Greeley Stampede produces one of the region’s best firework displays. The spectacular firework show is scheduled at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 4th and is displayed on the northwest corner of the park.
