2010 Kentucky Derby Hopefuls and Favorites

Who are the early 2010 Kentucky Derby hopefuls and favorites? The Kentucky Derby takes place in Louisville at Churchill Downs on May 1st, 2010. This year will mark the 136th Run For The Roses. What horses are being mentioned as early hopefuls and favorites for Derby 136 in 2010? Lookin at Lucky, Tiz Chrome and Winslow Homer were the horses getting the most publicity months before Derby 136. Winslow Homer is now out with a stress fracture so that leaves Looking at Lucky and Tiz Chrome as the early odds on favorites.

It’s way premature to say that either of these horses will absolutely even be in the field. A lot of things will need to fall into place for a Kentucky Derby hopeful to step foot on Churchill Downs racing surface on May 1st, 2010.
With that in mind, here are some horses who are still hopefuls for the 2010 Kentucky Derby as we enter the month of February.

Lookin at Lucky
Lookin at Lucky is generally regarded as one of the early favorites or hopefuls for the 2010 Kentucky Derby. Trainer Bob Baffert and possible jockey Garrett Gomez could be a winning combination for Derby 136. Mike Pegram is the owner of this Kentucky Derby 2010 favorite. Lookin at Lucky video is already up on YouTube here.

Dryfly
Dryfly won the Smarty Jones and has already claimed wins at Churchill Downs. Dryfly is the son of Jump Start.
Can Dryfly be a hopeful or even a contender for the 2010 Kentucky Derby? Don’t count him out as an entry.

Buddy’s Saint
Trained by Bruce Levin and ridden by Jose Lezcano, Buddy’s Saint is more than a hopeful for the Kentucky Derby in 2010. Some have this 3 year old Colt in the top three after winning 2 of 3 races in 2009.

Conveyance
Conveyance is a Bob Baffert trained horse that figures to be an entry come May 1st. Conveyance was the winner of the San Rafael Stakes January 16th. This is a horse that could be coming down the stretch in the Run for the Roses!

Tiz Chrome
This 2010 Kentucky Derby hopeful already has some YouTube video available here. It’s another Bob Baffert trained hopeful for Derby 136. Some have Tiz Chrome as a bigger early favorite than consensus pick Lookin At Lucky. Tiz Chrome will more than likely find an entry in Derby 136.

Super Saver
Todd Pletcher trains this 2010 Kentucky Derby hopeful. The three year old colt is the offspring of A.P. Indy.
Some analysts have Super Saver as a top five horse to compete in the 2010 Kentucky Derby.

Winslow Homer
Injury should prevent this winner of the Holy Bull stakes from competing in the 2010 Kentucky Derby. Winslow Homer was a one time hopeful and favorite until stress fracture issues most likely ruled him out as a 2010 Kentucky Derby entry.

Jackson Bend
Nick Zito trains this 3 year old Colt. This 2010 Kentucky Derby hopeful finished second to Winslow Homer in the Holy Bull Stakes. Could Jackson Bend be Derby bound as an entry?

Eskendereya
This Todd Pletcher trained horse could be another 2010 Kentucky Derby hopeful. Eskendereya won one of two races in 2009 at Belmont.

Blind Luck
Rafael Bejarano rode this filly to victory in the Hollywood Starlet Stakes. She dominated a field of 2 year old fillies which included Breeders Cup runner-up Beautician. Can Blind Luck be the 2010 Kentucky Derby hopeful for those wanting to place a bet on a filly? An entry into Derby 136 would certainly excited filly fans.
