1970s Disco Themed Party Games and Activities for Teens

1970's, Fondue Recipes, Summer Hair Care

Are you planning a 1970s themed disco party for your teen? If so, I’d like to suggest a few party games and activities. Here they are:

Disco Dance Party

Where there’s disco music, there has to be disco dancing. With that said, you’ll definitely want to teach the kids a few 1970s dance moves. It just so happens that I took dancing lessons in the 1970s, so I have a few dances that I can recommend. They are the Hustle, the Bus Stop, the Disco Duck and the Roller Coaster. There are various written instructions and videos online that can be used to help teach the kids how to execute each of the dance maneuvers.

Pin the Mustache on the Hunk

Having grown up in the 1970s, I can also attest to the fact that there was a bit of mustache madness going on. A good percentage of Hollywood’s hunks were sporting big and bushy mustaches, so why not incorporate that into your 1970s party as well. You could create a poster of a 1970s Hollywood hunk and have the kids play, “Pin the Mustache on the Hunk”, with it. The rules of “Pin the Mustache on the Hunk” are identical to “Pin the Tail on the Donkey.”

Fondue Party

The 1970s were also notorious for fondue parties and lazy Susans, so why not dust off your fondue pot and show the kids how it’s done? You’ll need a fondue pot and some fondue sticks of course. You may opt to go with a hot oil fondue pot, a chocolate fondue pot or a cheese fondue pot. The fondue pots are available through department stores, specialty kitchen shops and restaurant supply shops. Prices will vary based on the fondue pot selected. You’ll also need a few fondue recipes, which are readily available online.

Muscle Car Concentration Game

Muscle cars were also big in the 1970s. Therefore, you may want to engage the kids in a game of muscle car concentration. It’s played just like an ordinary game of concentration only with a muscle car twist. In order to set the game up, you’ll need to obtain pictures of muscle cars and glue those pictures onto card stock. Remember, in order for the game to work right, you’ll need two, identical cards for each muscle car. Once you’re done creating the muscle car cards, simply lay them face down onto the table like you would any other deck of concentration cards and let the kids have at it.

Friendship Bracelets and Mood Rings

Any 1970s party worth its disco ball also needs to have an ample supply of friendship bracelets, mood rings and chunky jewelry. As such, you may want to provide the kids with an array of jewelry making materials and let them make their own friendship bracelets and mood rings. Of course you’ll need to purchase an assortment of beads, beading cord ($4 a roll), ring bases and mood stones or gems (150 gems for $6). Many of those items may be purchased through craft stores, party supply shops and jewelry making supply shops.
