10 Favorite Martina McBride Songs

Break Up Songs

Singer/songwriter Martina McBride appeals to country and pop fans alike. Martina McBride’s songs have the power to inspire, uplift, reflect, or to just give you something to relax to. Her messages are always honest. She knows how to relate to the listener without being excessively sentimental. Here are 10 of my favorite Martina McBride songs, with links to YouTube videos.

10 I Love You

Part of her 1999 platinum album Emotion, Martina McBride’s I Love You is one of her lighter fluffier songs. I listen to this song when I’m taking a walk on a spring afternoon. Martina McBride’s I Love You has a playful and innocent quality, reminds me of my first crush.

9 In My Daughter’s Eyes

In My Daughter’s Eyes is part of Martina McBride’s 2003 album Martina. This is one of her more soulful ballads. This song could belong in a Disney movie. It reminds me of my relationship with my mom, who is also my best friend. With a husband and three daughters of her own, Martina McBride is probably singing to her own daughters. But McBride is a positive role model for any young woman.

8 How I Feel

Martina McBride’s How I Feel comes from her 2007 album Waking Up Laughing. How I Feel is upbeat without being saccharine. How I Feel could apply to a boyfriend, a lovable pet, or even a good friend. This song works when I need something light, happy, and uplifting. It’s the kind of song you listen to on the train or in a car.

7 Concrete Angel

Released in 2002, Concrete Angel is part of Martina McBride’s Greatest Hits album. Here, an abused girl finds solace in a concrete angel. Martina McBride is an active crusader against domestic violence. As a role model, McBride feels a responsibility to educate young women including her own daughters. Martina McBride’s passion and dedication really comes through in this song. I first heard this song on Canadian Idol (the Canadian version of American Idol) performed by Melissa O’Neil.

6 Happy Girl

Happy Girl is also part of Martina McBride’s Greatest Hits album. This is a great coming age song. The heroine of this song starts out as a shy wallflower, but later becomes comfortable in her own skin. She becomes a happy girl. Martina McBride reminds you that being happy will make you more attractive. I listen to this peppy tune whenever I need a slight boost. It’s also great to listen to this song before a date!

5 How Far

Part of Martina McBride’s 2003 album Martina, How Far is an andante (walking-tempo) ballad. If you’ve ever been in a frustrating relationship or a situation that just isn’t working, then this song may be for you. The heroine sings about her inability to communicate. She wonders how far she has to go to make him understand. In this song, Martina McBride commiserates without being whiny or depressingly sentimental (the way break-up songs tend to be sometimes).

4 God’s Will

Martina McBride seems to have a soft spot for the underdog. Also part of her album Martina, God’s Will is a play on words. It speaks of God’s will, but also a lovely crippled fatherless boy named Will. This ballad is one of Martina McBride’s more religious songs. Though the boy is crippled and sickly, Martina McBride is humbled by his simple faith and selfless nature.

3 This One’s For the Girls

Also part of her album Martina, this peppy country-pop tune offers words of encouragement for girls of all ages (13, 25, and 42). Martina McBride reminds girls of every age that you are beautiful the way you are. This is an especially great song for teenage girls who are dealing with peer pressure and struggling to fit in.

2 Independence Day

Part of Martina McBride’s 1993 album That’s the Way I Am, Independence Day portrays a young girl, a battered mother, and an abusive father. Independence Day also offers the question of what it truly means to be free. Unlike Concrete Angel, another domestic violence song, Independence Day has a stronger beat and a country folksy quality. Independence Day won Martina McBride a Country Music Association Video of the Year award. This song was also revived by Carrie Underwood on American Idol.

1 Anyway

This is my favorite Martina McBride song. Anyway is the lead single for Martina McBride’s 2007 album Waking Up Laughing. No matter your situation (difficult relationships, friendships, or careers), this is a song anyone can relate to. Martina McBride’s Anyway, offers a message of encouragement. This heartfelt ballad is one of her more religious songs. God may not answer every prayer. Things may not work out the way you plan. But nothing you do is ever wasted.

Hope you enjoyed my favorite Martina McBride songs!
