Yu-Gi-Oh! How to Build a Destiny Hero Deck

Dark City, Magic Cards

The game of Yu-Gi-Oh has introduced a lighthearted group of monsters known as the Elemental Heroes into our lives. These characters are colorful quirky and reflect an air of playfulness found in many children’s cartoon. But on the flip side of the Elemental Heroes or E-Hero’s as they are referred to we find a darker side of the monster world. I’m talking about the Destiny Heroes. In comparison the E-Hero’s are like Spiderman and the Destiny Heroes would be like the Punisher if that analogy helps.

The basics of a Destiny Hero deck are going to revolve around the creatures themselves and their support cards. Elemental Heroes relay on fusion summons alone, which in the long run make then virtually un-playable in the current format. Destiny Heroes on the other hand have a ton of power behind their creatures, and amazing effects. Also their tech cards are something to behold as well!

As with any deck in the game you’re going to have to start with monsters. The number of each monster in this deck is based on a solid build. Please feel free to modify this deck as you see fit. Also there are some other monsters listed that fit quite nicely in this arch type because all the Destiny Heroes are warrior type monster.

1 copy of Destiny Hero Dreadmaster
1 copy of Destiny Hero Dogma
1 copies of Destiny Hero Double Dude
2 copies of Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
2 copies of Destiny Hero Dasher
2 copies of Destiny Hero Blademaster
3 copies of Destiny Hero Fear Monger
3 copies of Destiny Hero Doom Lord

2 copies of Marauding Captain
1 copy of Exiled Force
1 copy of D.D. Warrior Lady
1 copy of Magician of Faith
1 copy of The Mask of Darkness

Total of 21 monsters

Dreadmaster is only able to be summoned by way of Clock Tower Prison, so he is not going to come out for a while, but his effect is massive, allowing 2 special summons and gaining attack equal to all Destiny Hero monsters you control on the field. Dogma is a decent addition to the deck as he is able to cut your opponent’s life points in half, however he’s very costly. Double Dude is a weak tribute, but allows you to attack twice, and when he is defeated he brings out to double tokens with 1000 attack, they can also be used as tribute fodder.

Diamond Dude has a nice effect, allowing you to draw up magic cards quick, and Dasher is all about speed and power. Fear Monger is an even split of attack and defense at 1000 for both, but his effect will bring back any Destiny Hero (including monsters of level 5 or higher) on your next standby phase. Doom Lord is awesome with an effect that amazes most anyone. He can remove any monster from play for 2 turns, then they get special summoned back to the field. This will cycle through an opponent’s field like crazy, always keeping them one monster short. Bladmaster is the icing on the cake, he’s more of a power up then an actual playable monster. If you discard him from your hand he up’s any Destiny Hero attack by 800 points

The deck is warrior based, and so you need some other good warriors to fill the gaps. Exiled Force is a must with his destruction effect, and D.D. warrior Lady will knock out any creature your opponent has to offer. Magician of Faith will pull back key spell cards from your graveyard and Mask of Darkness will retrieve your lost traps the same way Magician of Faith retrieves spells. Marauding Captain will allow you to special summon a level 4 or lower monster from your hand once he is put into play, giving you major field advantage. He also takes damage for any warriors you have in play.

Next you have to choose good spell cards that will accomplish two goals. 1) Give you advantage, and 2) lessen an opponent’s advantage. Destiny Heroes have a lot of spell cards, but not all of them are necessary to achieve victory. Here is a list of some basic spells you will need in the deck

2 copies of Smashing Ground
2 copies of Destiny Draw
2 copies of Clock Tower Prison
2 copies of The A. Force
2 copies of Dark City
2 copies of Reinforcement of the Army
1 copy of pot of Avarice
1 copy of Heavy Storm

Total of 14 spell cards

There is a lot of spell cards in this deck because you want to be able to utilize Diamond Dude’s effect. Destiny Draw and Pot of Avarice will give this deck a lot of blitzing power and Reinforcement of the Army will pull out key monsters you need at any time. Heavy Storm will take care of spell/trap cards your opponent has set and the Smashing grounds will kill off monsters with powerful attacks. The power behind this deck in terms of attack comes from The A. Force and Dark City. Dark City works just like Skyscraper, but for the Destiny Heroes adding 1000 to their attacks while on the offensive. The A. Force will add +200 attack to each warrior type monster you have in play for each other warrior type monster you have in play. This means that if you have Doom Lord and Fear Monger both face up in play they each receive a +400 bonus.

Taps are not so vital in this deck because you’re already pressed for room, but also you have so much power stemming from your monsters and spells there is little need for more.

Total of 8 Trap cards

Mirror Force and Ring of Destruction are just used because they are good in any deck, causing massive damage and clearing the field. D shield will protect any Destiny Hero from being destroyed as a result of battle, much like a Spirit Reaper, using this on Doom Lord will keep him and his effect around for a good bit of time, dwindling your opponent’s monster supply little by little. Destiny Signal will pull Destiny Heroes out of your deck for you, always making sure you have a strong field presence. The Bottomless Trap Holes are good anyways, killing creatures before they even enter play, but they also work well when couple with Doom Lords effect. Since the monsters are considered “Special Summoned” not just put back into play.

Destiny Hero decks are actually competitive, and work very well when played correctly. They are also very fun and strategic, making this game seem less mundane and more thought provoking. I suggest anyone who wants to play with something a little different should defiantly give this sort of deck a shot.
