Worst Names for Hair Salons

While the name of a business may or may not attract you as a customer, it does say a lot about the business itself. This is especially true when looking for a hair salon.

The perfect hair salon should have a name that sets it apart from the competition. Unfortunately, there are thousands of beauty salons across America with absolutely atrocious and uncreative names. If the salon’s owner isn’t creative enough to give his or her business a unique name, then what are the odds that the salon can provide you with a stylish, trendy, and modern hairstyle?

Using YellowPages.com, I have compiled a list of the most uncreative yet popular salon names in America. None of these salons are chain salons or franchises, which means the names for these businesses were created by the salon’s owner. Chances are, there is a salon right down the street from you with the same name. Here are some of the worst offenders:

1. Shear Perfection. According to YellowPages.com, there are 389 salons nationwide that go by this name. Equally detestable are other salons which use “shear” in their titles, such as Shear Expressions (128), Shear Magic (475), or Shear Creations (132). If you must patronize a salon with the word “shear” in the title, at least opt for something a little more creative, like “From Shear to Eternity” or “Shears Lookin’ At You, Kid.”

2. A Cut Above. My YellowPages.com search turned up a whopping 1,234 salons in America with this generic name. There are 89 salons with this name in California, and 84 in Texas. Much to my disappointment, there did not appear to be any salons named “I’ll Cut You!”

3. Mane Attraction. There are 446 salons in America with this name. Once again, the worst offenders are California (28) and Texas (33).

4. Mane Event. There are 221 salons that go by this name. Once again, California and Texas top the list. There are 20 Mane Events in California, and 16 in the Lone Star State. Is anyone else beginning to see a pattern?

5. Hairport. When I was a kid, there used to be a salon with this name in my neighborhood. When I was a third grader, I thought this play on words was cute, but now it’s downright tacky. There are 484 salons that go by the name of Hairport, and Texas alone has the most with 39. Illinois and New York each have 27 Hairports.

6. Hair Force. There are 128 salons going by this name on YellowPages.com, including 11 in Wisconsin.

7. The Hair Barn. Why anyone would associate high fashion with a building used to house sheep and pigs is beyond me. Nonetheless, there are 63 salons that use this name. When it comes to Hair Barns, Mississippi leads the way with 5.

8. The Hair Shack. Surprisingly, this one is even more common than The Hair Barn. There are 245 Hair Shacks on YellowPages.com. Most of these shacks are located in Texas (18) and California (17). Apparently, getting your hair done in a shack, barn, shed, shanty, or hovel is the thing to do. I must not have gotten the memo.

9. Creative Cuts. I would not expect to get a creative cut at a place called Creative Cuts, especially since there are 307 salons operating under that name. Pennsylvania has 26 of them, and California has 20. Meanwhile, 28 salon owners thought that they would think outside of the box and opt for Kreative Kuts.

10. Creations Salon or Salon Creations. Either way, America has 358 of them, the majority of which are in Texas (30) and Florida (27).

11. Reflections Salon. There are 380 business listings for salons with this name on YellowPages.com. Anyone care to guess which states have the most Reflections? Yep, you guessed it. California (29) and Texas (23).

12. Hollywood Hair. There are 117 businesses with this name, only two of which are actually in Hollywood. The rest are predominantly in Texas (19) and New York (17).

13. The Cutting Edge. 234 salons in America go by this name, most of which are located in California (23), Pennsylvania (12), and Texas (12).

14. Bliss Salon. There are 142 listings for Bliss Salon and Salon Bliss. Similarly, 89 salons go by the name of Euphoria, and a whopping 340 salons go by the name of Serenity. However, no salons in my YellowPages.com search go by the name of Originality.

15. Blood, Sweat, and Shears. Three salons did not have any reservations about picking a business name which combined blood with a sharp, metal object.
