Winter 2012: Great Ice Skating Rinks in Reno and Carson City

Remember the fun of going ice skating during the winter after the nearby pond or river froze solid enough to hold the weight of happy people spinning on the ice? That is one type of winter skating sport found in Reno and Carson City. The best part is the room for a good time for everyone.

Rink on the River

The 2012 – 2013 ice skating season for Reno’s Rink on the River begins November 20 through February 3. It is a highlight of the winter season for viewers and skaters. Kids 3 -12 and adults 55 and over pay $5.50, while those 13 through 54 pay $7.50. Skate rental is $2.50. Those intending to skate quite a bit benefit from the punch and season passes. Open daily at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, there are two sessions throughout the day. Saturday hours are 11 to 11, while Sunday skating is 11 to 9.

Skating lessons are available. If you have been wondering how to hold a different sort of birthday party for the kids, this is a great adventure. Schedule the event at least two weeks in advance. Rink on the River is an outdoor rink that can be affected by changes in weather, such as wind and snow. Call the hotline at 775-334-6268 to check on conditions.

The rink is on the corner of First and Virginia Streets along the Truckee River. Parking is available in the Cal Neva garage.

Arlington Square Ice Rink

Also known as the Carson City Ice Rink, the 2012 – 2013 ice skating takes place November 23 through January 21. Those living in or visiting Nevada’s state capital will enjoy this opportunity to enhance, refresh or begin their skills in ice skating. Featuring two afternoon sessions Monday through Friday, adds a morning session for the weekend. Skate rental is $3. Kids from 3 to 12 have a $5 admission fee, while skaters 13 and over pay $7. Punch passes provide a discount for avid ice skaters.

Field trips and celebrations are welcome. Reservation information is available at the website. Rent a heated tent for a low price. An outdoor rink, Arlington Square is subject to weather. Call the hotline at 775-283-7429 to check on daily operations. Located across the street from the Carson Nugget at the corner of W Robinson and N Carson Streets, parking is easy to find.
