Also, as a fan, you can realize how good uniformity can be. How many of us pick up the sales papers to see what DVD movies are coming out that Tuesday? How many of us have to think about what day those movies might be coming out? We realize from past practice that the DVD movies come out on Tuesday.

Let us say that we work for Disney, and we have decided to ship three new movies that are coming out on DVD next week. Our shipments are going to be going out to about eight thousand warehouses, distributorships, and stores across the country. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to ship all three movies at the same time for release on the same day? If you were one of the distributorships, wouldn’t you want a uniform day to ship everything for? Less shipments equal less expenses.

Traditionally, Tuesday is one of the slowest days of the week in retail. For many years, there were many retail companies that would have special promotions on Tuesday and Wednesday to try to bring more customers into the store. Before DVD movies, music, and video games were set to all come out on Tuesday, some retailers would have special senior discount days to get bodies into the building.
Once the idea came out to have DVD movies, music, and video games to all be released on Tuesday, retailers now has something uniform (there’s that word again) to look forward to every Tuesday. Even retailers that do not carry these kind of merchandise can benefit from more bodies being in the strip plaza or mall that they are open in.
When asking the question, “Why do DVD movies come out on Tuesday?,” one has to realize that there are many points of logic that go into this practice. As someone who has worked very close with the retail industry, I can say that I would be very surprised if this practiced ever changed. It makes too much sense to keep the DVD movies, music, and video games coming out the same day every week.
