What the Democratic Party Believes

There is a lot of talk in the political arena about different parties involved in politics. However, does the general public know what democrats and republicans each believe in? This article will explore the beliefs of the Democratic Party as a whole.

Civil Rights.

According to the Democratic Nation Committee Platform, democrats “…want an America that gives all Americans the chance to live out their dreams and achieve their God-given potential. [Democrats] want an America that is still the world’s strongest force for peace and freedom. And…that is coming together around our enduring values, instead of drifting apart.”

To paraphrase, the Democratic Party believes that every American should have the same opportunities, regardless of age, color, sex, race or religion. The Democratic Party wishes to eliminate all forces of discrimination from our country. Democrats believe in equality for all, and still fight for civil rights for American citizens.

Education.

Democrats understand that education can sometimes be hard for families dealing with economic hardships. The Democratic Party feels that higher education should be accessible by every American citizen, and that money should not be an issue. They believe that accessible higher education is the key to success in the twenty-first century. Democrats also feel that schools should be safe and healthy for children to learn; this is the only way they have the freedom to learn. Technology is another factor, as the Democratic Party believes that students must have access to the latest technology to tap into the broadest range of knowledge possible.

Freedom of Speech.

Democrats state that the First Amendment gives American citizens the right to say what they want to say without repercussions. The Democratic Party fights to enforce this right.

Clean Environment.

The Democratic Party believes that the entire human race has a responsibility to protect the environment for future generations. According to Democrats, if we destroy our ecosystem, we destroy ourselves. Democrats also believe that we need clean and reliable energy available to have a successful American economy.

Technology.

According to the Democratic Party, technology drives economic growth, creates new jobs enables the creation of new industries, and overall improves the American way of life. Therefore, the Democratic Party stresses the importance of developing new technology, and does everything they can to support it.

Fair Taxes.

Many of the American citizens are unhappy about the taxes in our country. The democratic party believes that the rich should not get tax breaks while the poor are made poorer. The Democratic Party is determined to provide tax cuts that are paid for, so that the budget becomes balanced.

Honor the Working American.

Democrats believe that all workers in the United States should be able to earn a living at their job and work in a safe environment. The democratic party supports the continued economic growth of our nation, and a continually rising rate of wages for our workers.

Health Care.

The democratic party is devoted to ensuring that all Americans, regardless of economic status, have access to affordable and adequate health care.

Abortion.

Abortion is a very controversial subject today. The democratic party believes that every woman should have the choice, and not have the law telling her what she can and cannot do with her own body.

Separation of Church and State.

By keeping the separation of church and state intact, the Democratic Party believes that the government will not be endorsing any one religion. Democrats support religious freedom for all citizens.

Multi-culturism.

The democratic party believes that each new culture in America adds diversity. They believe that each culture should feel pride in their own culture, but that all Americans should learn to speak English.
