What Does the Bible Say About Parenting?

Sometimes children can be really frustrating and difficult to deal with. It’s hard not to raise your voice and yell at them. But how you deal with your children has an impact on how they grow up and more importantly whether they accept Christ. There are many verses in the Bible about children and how to deal with children that are very helpful.

“I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.’ And he worshiped the LORD there.” – 1 Samuel 1:27-28
Whenever your children are being a pain in the butt remember that children are a precious gift from God.

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” – Proverbs 3:3
If you’re children get in trouble or cause a lot of problems then just remember you are supposed to always have love and faithfulness no matter what.

“The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction.” – Proverbs 16:21
Wise people are very discerning. When your children get in trouble think before you speak. Sometimes your first reaction will be to yell and scream but the Bible tells us that speaking pleasantly will promote instruction.

“Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” – Proverbs 22:15
Remember that your children will sometimes do things that aren’t right because they don’t know any better, they are foolish. If you always teach your children to do the right thing then they will learn the right thing to do.

“Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul.” – Proverbs 29:17
This is another Bible verse about teaching your children to do the right thing. If you discipline your children it will teach them the right thing to do.

” Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.” – Colossians 3:21
This Bible verse is pretty straightforward. Parents should not do anything that will make their children bitter or they will become discouraged.

“do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” – Ephesians 6:4
Ephesians 6:4 is similar to the Bible verse before this one. Not only should you not do anything to make your children bitter but also you should not do something to make them angry.

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” Proverbs 20:7
If you want your children to be righteous then the best thing to do is to lead by example. In order to be a righteous man you must be a man of integrity. Then your children will follow.
