Corrugated paper is ideal for paper crafts because it adds texture, strength, and color to the project. Christmas ornaments are easy to make out of corrugated paper because it holds its shape, is easy to work with, and is lightweight. A variety of toys can be made from corrugated paper using a method of rolling narrow strips of corrugated paper into cylinders and gluing them together. Here two examples of corrugated paper crafts using completely different methods.
This unique star ornament is made from two sizes of stars. A pattern can be drawn and cut for tracing and can be used multiple times. The larger star is traced on the back of red corrugated paper and cut out. The smaller star is traced on the back of tan corrugated paper and cut out. Craft glue is applied to the back of the tan star and it is glued to the red star. To add texture to the ornament the corrugated patterns of the two stars is going in different directions. A single piece of raffia ribbon is threaded into one whole of a red button and out the other hole. The raffia ribbon is tied in a small bow. With the bow underneath the button it is glued to the center of the tan star. A hole punch is used to make a hole in the top of the red star. Raffia ribbon is made into a small bundle and tied with a single piece of raffia. One end of the strand securing the bundle is threaded through the hole and both ends are tied together to make the hanger.
Curly Sheep
This adorable curly sheep is made from strips of white, pink and yellow corrugated paper. The sheep’s wool is made from 20 white strips of corrugate paper that are glued at one end, rolled up to make small cylinders, and the end glued to secure the roll. When all 20 white rolls are made they are laid flat and glued together in four rows of five rolls. The rows are off set so they fit well together. The sheep’s face, which is the width of three rows of sheep’s wool, is made from pink strips of corrugated paper that is glued at one end, rolled, and glued at the end to secure. Two tiny narrow white cylinders are rolled and glued onto the face for eyes. One small black cylinder is glued on for the nose. Two short strips of yellow corrugated paper are curled into a half circle with each end curled inward. One curl is glued to each side of the face where ears normally go. The two sheep’s feet are made from yellow strips of corrugated paper that are glued at one end, rolled, and glued at the end to secure them. The feet are laid flat, craft glue is applied to the top of the feet and they are glued to the upright sheep’s body.
Tip
If cutting strips feels too labor intensive, kits are available with precut shapes and strips of corrugated paper, complete instructions, and everything needed to complete the project.
