Wente Syrah 2004-The Hidden Wine

Growing Grapes, Livermore, Syrah

The Vineyard Behind The Wine

Wente Vineyards was founded in 1883 by C.H. Wente, and is now managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the family members (Eric, Phillip, Carolyn, Christine, and Karl) which makes it the oldest family owned winery at 123 years old. Growing grapes in the Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay area, the vineyard has close to 3,000 acres to take the wine and distinguish character and excellence at an affordable price.

The wine making abilities of Karl D. Wente in recent years has seen his passion for wine cultivate into an addition of limited released wines. He is responsible for all the wine making and grape growing at the Wente Vineyards estate, which continues to withstand the test of time. Karl continues to bring mix new innovation with family tradition and experiment with the wines of the modern day to bring the very best to the family’s customers.

What the Wente family calls, “farming for the future” is understood in a way that the agriculture is setup of many different programs. Which creates bio-diversity in the vineyards minimizing the need for pesticides. The crops therefore are recycled into organic fertilizer to create living soils that renew themselves. Everything that is done within the vineyard practices also helps reduce the chance of water pollution, control erosion, and conserve energy and water.

In the most recent years, the Wente family have made their vineyard a fantastic attraction for any wine loving tourists or members. Equipped with a 18 hole championship golf course designed by golf legend Greg Norman, and their award winning restaurant constitutes a willingness to share their discoveries with the world.

Wente Syrah The Hidden Wine

Varietals: 91% Syrah, 8% Barbera, 1% Zinfandel
Winemake: Karl D. Wente
Alcohol: 13.5%
pH: 3.67
Acid: 0.59g/100ml

The majority of the Syrah blend is 100% made from the Livermore Valley area. The location is very crucial to allow the grapes to mature longer which increases the berry flavors in this particular wine. Having an east-west orientation allows any fog from the coast to roll over the hills before the temperatures peak during the day and in essence ripen the grapes in a more profound way.

Aged in French and American oak barrels and part stainless steel this particular 2004 Vintage fills the bouquet with spicy aromas, and hints of toffee, coffee, and blackberry. Only having medium tannins the combination of black cherry flavors, and a smooth, spicy finish brings warmth to the body in every way possible.

Fitting Your Budget

After doing some research it seemed as the only place to purchase this wine was directly from their website. Expecting the pricing to be well over $50 dollars, I came to find that a bottle was only $34.95. If you are looking to purchase more than one bottle for a company function or something of that nature the website encourages you to open up a corporate account and receive a twenty-five percent discount. Otherwise the only other way to purchase is by the bottle.

If you would would like to purchase a bottle at an inexpensive price look no further than the website for wine(www wine com). Regularly priced at only $12.99 a bottle it now becomes very affordable to anyone trying to add some new life to any party or occasion.
