People in southeast Alabama have treasured Lake Eufaula for years. Lake Eufaula is also no secret to pro bass fishermen. Lake Eufaula is one of the best bass lakes I have ever fished on. Lake Eufaula is a reservoir on the Alabama side of the Chattahoochee River. If you can cast a line, you can usually catch a fish at Lake Eufaula.

I remember fishing there as a kid. We were in an area abundant with pan fish. Around sunset, there were literally so many fish you could see them. The waters we were fishing were shallow, and we could have cast a net and pulled in a haul of fish. Of course, there was no sport in that, so we just kept pulling them in one after the other. We had quite a fish fry.

The sport fishing in Lake Eufaula includes large and small mouth bass. Lake Eufaula is a tournament lake, so if you want bragging rights there are scales at the marina docks. You don’t have to fish for bass. Lake Eufaula is full of bream, crappie, and catfish, too. Whatever your fisherman’s delight you will find it at Lake Eufaula.

I would be remiss to fail to mention another great perk. Lakepoint Resort hosts a championship quality golf course. The outrageous part is you the cost. You can play 18 holes for $20-$25. That is unheard of where I live. My husband stays on the golf course at Lakepoint Resort, while I stay on the lake. We have yet to find the same caliber golf course any cheaper.

The nearby town of Eufaula is home to shopping, modest accommodations, and plenty of restaurants. The quaint, old town atmosphere of downtown Eufaula is charming and offers dining, antique shopping, monuments, and more. Old oaks shade antebellum homes and Shorter Mansion, the home of the Eufaula Historical Museum. Lakepoint Resort boarders the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge which offers hiking, observation towers, and driving tours of wildlife and game.

If you have never heard of Lake Eufaula it is time to get acquainted with this beautiful, peaceful location. It is located not far from the Georgia state line, about a two hour drive from Atlanta, GA, an hour and a half from Montgomery, AL, and a about 45 minutes from Dothan, AL. It is easy to get to, easy to find, but is like a hidden gym in southeast Alabama. It sounds too good to be true, but this one isn’t. Make reservations early and enjoy one of the best weekend getaways, or vacations of your life.
