Ways to Decorate Cheap Picture Frames

Picture Frames

Picture frames come in all price ranges and styles, from very cheap and ordinary to very ornate and pricey. You don’t have to spend a small fortune to own beautiful picture frames. Instead of buying expensive ornate picture frames you can buy cheap frames and decorate them to look more expensive and much more decorative. Give the following ways to decorate cheap picture frames a try. Even those who aren’t artistically inclined can turn ordinary cheap picture frames into extraordinary works of art.

Decorate with Craft Buttons

Ordinary flat buttons really aren’t special, but did you know you can find flat buttons in almost every subject imaginable? I was surprised to find dozens of buttons in an aisle of a local craft store, and they were unlike any buttons I’ve ever found for ordinary sewing purposes. These buttons were highly decorative, detailed, cute, and very unique. They were perfect for gluing around cheap picture frames to make them fit just about any subject or occasion. Check out the selection of craft buttons at your local craft store. The options will amaze you!

Decorate using Shells and Ocean Glass

I love seashells, and I consider them amazing works of art provided by nature. If you’re fortunate enough to live by the ocean, take advantage of the many natural craft supplies you find along the shore. When visiting South Carolina I collected dozens of tiny seashells with beautiful colors and details, and I found numerous pieces of polished ocean glass. The shells and ocean glass were the perfect combination to surround a beautiful framed photo of my trip to South Carolina. I turned an ordinary cheap picture frame into a decorative frame that beautifully displayed my favorite photo.

Decorate with Sequins

Eye-catching metallic sequins aren’t just for fabric applications, but many people have no idea how to use them. Sequins can be glued onto an ordinary picture frame in a pattern, or they can be tied to frames that have openings around the edges. A scrollwork picture frame can be embellished with strings of beautiful sequins and beads to look like a unique work of art.

Decorate using Scrapbook Stickers

I don’t work on scrapbooks, but I love scrapbook stickers, and I’ve looked for ways to use those three-dimensional stickers that are good for more than scrapbook making. Three-dimensional stickers meant for scrapbooks can be attached to cheap picture frames to match specific themes and events. Browse the scrapbook aisle of your local craft store. You’ll be amazed by the number of scrapbook stickers that you can add to cheap picture frames to make them more interesting and far more unique and decorative.

Decorate with Tiles

Ceramic tiles that are broken are worth saving since they can be used to decorate cheap picture frames. You’ll find broken tiles in craft stores, or you can visit home improvement stores and ask to purchase broken tiles. You might just get them for little to nothing.

Begin by gluing small pieces of broken tile to an ordinary flat picture frame using epoxy glue or any other glue that’s appropriate for the materials you’re using. Leave a few millimeters of space in between tiles, and allow the glue to dry completely.

Next, fill in the openings with tile grout, and wipe away excess grout with a damp rag. Allow the grout to dry completely before adding a picture or hanging. You’ll have a unique mosaic picture frame that looks like an expensive work of art.
