Visit Delaware’s Lewes Beach

Family Getaway, Kids Beach Activities

My family lives in Delaware and we certainly love to take advantage of the fabulous coastal areas in our state, and surrounding states. Of all the beaches in Delaware, our favorite family getaway is in the first town of Lewes. This is a family oriented, fun, quaint, and clean area to take the family! My parents, hubby, and kids all love to take time and play in the sand and water at their beach. This beach has a parking area with metered parking for convenience, but offers a few perks which other surrounding beaches do not.

Lewes beach has clean restrooms with shower areas that can be utilized to rinse down the kids before bringing the sandy beach back in your car! They have outside feet rinses as well for a quick rinse.

Another perk is the snack bar right on the beach! This snack bar is run by volunteers and has some quick tasty snacks and beverages. You don’t have to leave the beach for lunch! Just a block up from the beach is also a Dairy Queen, which makes a nice treat for the kids at the end of the day. It is close and within walking distance, and can even offer some air conditioning rest time if you choose to sit indoors!

We have found that this beach is more “family oriented” than some and always have great people sitting around us, which often turns into beach play dates for the kiddo’s! My husband loves the beach here because you don’t have a busy boardwalk with loud music completing with a relaxing time at the beach.

Lifeguards are at the beach during the summer months, which is an extra in my book! Although, the waves at this beach tend to be very mild mannered and I have never witnessed an undertoe. This is probably the number one reason to take small children to this particular beach. My two children love to get on the boogie-board, and have a great time.

A bonus is that the beach neighbors with the Ferry so you can enjoy watching the Ferry run between the beach and the Cape May, NJ coastline.
