Vintage Window Treatment: Turn Your Vintage Silverware into a Window Treatment

Retro Kitchen, Silverware, Window Valance

A Vintage Silverware Window Treatment is the perfect way to display a collection of Vintage Silverware or heirloom silverware that is merely collecting dust in a drawer. Many people inherit collections of silverware and have no need for them. If you are like me though, you could not bar to part with these shiny pieces of family history.

This easy to make Vintage Silverware Window Treatment is perfect for retro kitchen, dining room, or even a home office.

If you have tons of leftover Vintage Silverware, then try making this simple Window Treatment with them.

My favorite feature about this window treatment made from Vintage Silverware is that you can easily display a huge collection of heirloom silverware in a fun new way.

To Make a Vintage Silverware Window Treatment You Will Need:

Vintage Silverware or heirloom silverware (Lots of them)

One 2X6, cut to fit your window

Primer

Paint

Paint Brush Sand Paper

L Brackets Power Drill

Glue (epoxy of hot glue)

Now, the first step is to measure how wide your individual window is. I like to make this Vintage Silverware valance stick out about 5 to 6 inches on either side, but that is up to you.

You will also need two pieces of this same board cut to about 4 to 5 inches wide. These will be the sides of your valance.

Now, Screw in through the front ends of your long board and attach your two side pieces of the valance. I like to predrill these holes and then put in my screws so that the boards do not split.

Now, sand your entire wood window treatment lightly.

Paint on a coat of primer, like Kilz.

Let the primer dry, then paint on a coat of your paint. I like to paint this valance because you will be able to see it behind your Vintage Silverware.

This is a good time to introduce an accent color into your room. You could also paint this board the same color as your walls if you have any leftover wall paint.

Now, let that paint dry.

Measure across your board with your tape measure. I like to make a mark every inch or so that I ca evenly space my silverware.

You could get away with a dot every 4 or 6 inches as well. You need to be consistent because you want your Vintage Silverware to be spaced evenly. If you are worried about how many Vintage Silverware pieces will fit onto the valance, then start making the dots in the middle of the valance and work your way out left and right until you reach each end.

Now, you can attach the heirloom silverware with hot glue or epoxy glue. The hot glue will allow you to remove the silverware when you need it again or simply want to take it down. Epoxy glue will be more permanent.

Now, use your L brackets to hang the Vintage Silverware valance on the wall. I like to put one L bracket on the left end of the valance and one on the right end of the vintage window valance They should be placed on the inside of the side wood pieces. Try to screw into a wood stud if at all possible.

Do this for every window in your retro or vintage kitchen and you can really display quite a Vintage Silverware collection.

You can also hang curtains from inside of this Vintage Silverware window valance by using a tension rod inside of it. The wood sides of the valance will easily support the tension rod.
