The first thing you need to do is lay your vintage fabric out and measure it. I do not know how much you will need, because that will be based on how large you make your Happy Birthday Banner!

Cut out a piece of the heavy thick fusible interfacing to the same size as your fabric. Iron the two together.

Now, use the fabric chalk or any white chalk to outline the letters for Happy Birthday. Each letter should be individual and separate.

You can trace out letters on cardboard and cut them out to trace on the fabric. You could also use letter stencils to trace.

Now, use some fun pinking sheers to cut out your Happy Birthday banner letters. Apply some no fray to the edge of all of the letters! This is important so your Shabby Chic Happy Birthday Banner can last for years!

Now, you have a few choices for stringing your retro Happy Birthday Banner Together. You can use small grommets and place on eat the top left and right an bottom left an right of each letter, then tie the shabby chic letters together with twine, ribbon, or yarn!

Now, you can also use some of those office supply metal tabs that you slide through a hole and open the back to hold things together. In this case I would only cut holes in the top left and right of the retro happy birthday banner letters. This way when you hang the banner the letter easy pull part at the bottom to make a nice arch.

If you want to save some of your vintage fabric you could also photo copy you fabric at Kinko’s. Have them print the fabric out on poster boards. Cut you happy birthday banner out of the cardboard. Use those pinking sheers again. You can string them up as before.

Now, for one final idea for a great looking shabby chic happy birthday banner no one will forget use the first set of letters, then cut out a second set that is slightly smaller. Now, lay the small corresponding vintage letters on top of the larger letters. Sew them together to create dimension, texture, and a lot more impact. String the retro happy birthday banner together as before!
