Very Easy Art Projects for Children

Art Projects, Jackson Pollock

Children love art, and parents love it too. Making art is one of the most creative and economical activities that you can do with your children. With online access, or checking out some books from your local library, you can turn your child into a miniature artist and keep them inspired. These are a few easy art projects for children.

Materials:
Paper

Crayons

Colored pencils

Clip board

These art projects are easy to do and require few materials. I like to have the children use a clipboard to do their drawing, since it is portable, it allows them to make art anywhere, and it is easy for little hands to hold. Put a few pieces of paper on each clipboard. Then, I give the littlest ones a cup of crayons. Older children who are writing can have colored pencils and pens.

Art Projects for Children: Making a Landscape

Have your children take their clipboards and pens and pencils outdoors to draw a landscape. Explain that a landscape is a drawing that you do outdoors, and tell them that they can draw whatever they want. If you have a group of children, it can be fun to have them draw the same thing, so they can compare their drawings with their friends, and you can talk about originality and creativity.

Art Projects for Children: Making a Still Life

A still life is a fun art project for kids. Set up an area on a table or chair with things for the kids to draw. It can be a bowl of fruit, a garden plant, or anything colorful. It is especially fun for them to set up a still life with their own toys. Just keep it simple. A few items are all you need to hold their interest. Different colors and textures can provide a challenge. A teddy bear, a toy car, a book, etc. If your children are smaller, make it easier, like a ball and some blocks.

Art Projects for Children: Making a Self-Portrait

Self-portraits are a great art project for children. Have the children sit in front of a mirror. A mirrored closet door is ideal, but you can just set up a small mirror if you don’t have one. The amount of guidance that you give your children depends on their age. School age children can usually create a portrait complete with crowns, jewels, and everything they like. Smaller children can be fed information, like draw a circle for the face, you need eyes, where is the nose, etc. You can also have them make crazy portraits, where you make everything a different color than it really is.

Art Projects for Children: Making a Masterpiece

This is where a library book or the internet comes in handy. Take a look at some famous works of art and have your children copy them. They love van Gogh, Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and others. Just pick a painting, read a little bit about the technique, and make your own version. This easy art project makes your child feel like they are a true artist. And besides, the masters usually started out by copying, so it is a good learning experience.

These are just a few very easy art projects that you can do with your children. You can also just set them up and let them create. Always encourage your child to create art, and they will grow up to be creative and happy.
