Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Flipside

Urban Decay

While Flipside is a super cool color, at this point, I feel like it is the plague. With all of my Urban Decay palettes, I have more copies of Flipside than digits in my whole phone number (that’s right people, area code and all). I do like it and think it is extremely unique, but teal shades just do not appeal to me that much. I do use this every once in a while, but when Urban Decay puts in every single palette they make, it is kind of a turn off. It has the awesome Urban Decay formula, a crazy-awesome color, amazing staying power, and great blendability. With all of my color-bias aside, it is a must-have eyeshadow for lovers of blue, lovers of green, and anyone looking for another great summer shade.

COLOR

Like I said before Flipside is almost a teal, but with a hint more green than your traditional teal. It shows up very true to color in the pan and on the eye, and highlights brown eyes very nicely. I have also seen this on blue eyes, and it is absolutely stunning. But, I am talking those really deep blue eyes- you will probably want to try this color before buying it even if you have blue eyes. It is very picky about who it is nice to, and is kind of an “out there” color. It is kind of hard to work with like a blue, but slightly easier as it has all of the green in it. The color is very nice and soothing and almost reminds me of a mermaid or something. I would describe this as a deeper sea-foam green with a hint of blue, but Urban Decay describes it as an electric teal with blue sheen. Teal with a hint of blue really is the only way to describe this shade.

FORMULA

Like almost every other Urban Decay eyeshadow I have reviewed, Flipside has a great formula featuring: superb blendability, awesome staying-power, amazing pigmentation, and super soft on the eye. So far, I have yet to come across any eyeshadow that has a better formula than Urban Decay eyeshadows. I guess maybe some select MAC Frosts and Veluxe Pearls, but they are very inconsistent. When you buy an Urban Decay eyeshadow, you are guaranteed a good product. As I always say about Urban Decay eyeshadows, they will last all day with a base, but without, you may see some fading- Flipside is no exception.

FUNCTIONALITY

In my brief reviews of Flipside in other palettes, I didn’t offer many details except that it was a great pop of color to an otherwise neutral eye. I still stand by this, and see Flipside as a wonderful pop of color for the summer- especially as eyeliner or on the lower lash line. However, that being said, I do not see much use out of this shade in fall/winter, or even in spring, sadly. It is kind of a one-note color, but you will get good use out of it in the summer.

PACKAGING

Flipside does have a nice sheen and shimmer to it, obviously meaning that it is the regular formula. This also means that is in a silver eyeshadow pot featuring the Urban Decay logo and some absolutely adorable designs around the small window. If you have never read one of my Urban Decay reviews, you are probably unaware of the fact that I adore the small window versus the MAC one, it being larger. This is because the small one still provides color visibility, but makes it less susceptible to cracking or breaking.

FINAL OPINIONS

Overall, if I liked greens more, I would probably be all over my ten “copies” of Flipside. However, while I like bright colors, these sorts of teals just don’t do it for me. I will use it a smattering of times this summer like I did last summer, but other than that, Flipside will sit idle in my drawer. But, once again, don’t let my color-bias get the best of you. This is a great eyeshadow and a great product, but I do recommend trying before buying as it can be intimidating to some of you neutral girlies. Flipside is the complete package though; just wish it were a tad bit more functional.
