Trace Adkins Greatest Hits II, American Man Album Review

Greatest Hits

It has been some last ten years for Trace Adkins! His first album “Dreaming Out Loud” came out 1996 and Trace has not slowed down ever since!

Instead of releasing his second greatest hits album Trace was originally supposed to release his studio album number eight but compromised with his second Greatest Hits compilation.

I can’t blame him a bit! His last album “Dangerous Man” came out just 2006 and he’s been steadily touring ever since and somehow even managed to write a book recently.

There is three new songs in this album and “I Got My Game On” follows his lady wooing style with swinging style and killer video as we’ve used to seen from Trace so often.

Opening track is his last #1 single “Ladies Love Country Boys”, another fun song from Trace. To me best of his new songs follows called “You’re Gonna Miss This” which is a ballad about time flying past. This song tackles same subject as Kenny Chesney’s hugely popular Don’t Blink.

You know Trace could not release his Greatest Hits album without including his biggest cross over hit to date called “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk. As a mom myself I can totally relate to his old hit “Hot Mama”, I just think those lyrics and the video are one of a kind! From the same era comes “Rough & Ready” showing plenty sex appeal.

Maybe the most surprising hit “Arlington” follows and it shows the serious side of Trace, if you have his albums you do know that his songs are not always just fun and games.

Singing about his roots and what he is all about in the end Trace totally convinces me in “Songs About Me”. “Chrome” is another not so country but very calculated hit and how can you blame her for not liking chrome…

I know every word by heart on his next choice “I Wanna Feel Something”.

“If you’re tellin me that’s just how it is
I don’t buy it cause once I was kissed
by a red-headed girl with cherry lips
on her porch when I was sixteen..”

Yep, I just love that song! Then Trace takes you swinging with a song that is anything but baseball related, another winner for him with a great video.

I can’t say I’m overly loving his title song American Man, last new track on this album. To me the melody just does not fly, lyrics are overkill, not that I do not appreciate American guys, but Trace stretching Ameeeeeeriiicaaaan Maaaaaan just sounds like a redo from some of Toby Keith’s songs.. Sorry!

I was pleasantly surprised to find another more serious and very touching “I Came Here To Live” from his Dangerous Man album ending this CD. I myself had a preemie child and remember watching her through the glass in the hospital and this song always brings all those emotions back to me. After all nobody came here to die!

So if you are Trace Adkins fan you already own this album and if you just like some of his songs this is the great way to own a great CD with 13 songs, for the price how can you go wrong!
