Top Ten Songs by Floetry

My top ten favorite songs by Floetry are all from their 2002 debut album Floetic. Producers Keith “Keshon” Pelzer, Darren Henson, Vidal Davis, Andre Harris, and Ivan Barias really did their thang! GENIUS!! This album was nominated for a Grammy in 2003 for Best Contemporary R&B; Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance. The album went gold.

10. Hey You. This song is so soulful that it just touches every nerve in your body and you have no choice but to just stop what you’re doing and mellow out to the music. The lyrics are deep and just make you think. This song was released in 2002 from their debut on Floetic. It is a little sad at moments though; we all hate break-ups.

9. Floetic. “Floetic” is one those songs that make you nod your head whether you know the lyrics or not. This was also from Floetic album. This song has what’s known as a neo-soul feel to it. This song brings an excellent combination of “spoken word” and beautiful vocals. Marsha has the vocals of an angel. This song was nominated for a Grammy in category of Best R&B; song in 2003 and was # 29 on the U.S. R&B; charts.

8. Subliminal. What a jam! Another soulful song that makes you stop and think about what’s going on. It makes you think about the things we don’t pay attention to in our lives that just pass us by while the real world goes on around us. I think the message is for us to stop letting tv personalities run our lives and we must wake up and realize there’s more to life than just talk shows and materialistic things.

7. Hello. What an emotional song. It makes you want to pick up the phone and call that special person in your life just to say “hello. Remeber how you felt when you met that person in your life that made you feel like they could do no wrong and everything that they said was right? This song makes you reflect on that feeling of floating on cloud nine when you met “the one”. The music and lyrics make you sit back and smile as you think about that special someone and how just hearing their voice made you melt.

6. Gettin’ Late. The Songstress and The Floacist came strong with this 2003 hit single. Letting your guard down in a relationship can be a scary thing. Nobody wants to be hurt in any relationship. This song hit home for lots of people. Letting that someone know that you’ve been hurt before and don’t want to be used or hurt again is of extreme importance. But the feelings you have for them are so strong that you become week at just the thought of them. They reaasure you that you don’t have to be afraid to let go and love. In 2003 it was #31 on the U.S, R&B; charts.

5. Ms. Stress. The song that speaks to some who have played the part of a mistress. The mistress is the onr who doesn’t have true feelings but just kinda takes the place of something that may be missing. But here, the mistress is fighting feelings of love. Knowing that a promise was made not to fall in love is making the phone call difficult. The expression of heart-felt feelings is difficult; which refers to the verse when The Floacist says she’s playing Russian Roulette and put the phone to her ear; losing focus of what the initial understanding was and expresses her “feelings”. A mistress is not only a person, but can be posessions as well as habits that we may put in place of what we may think is missing in our lives.

4. Mr. Messed Up. What a “messed up” situation. Trying to let someone know that you really don’t have feelings for them but you tried to make it work anyway, can be a real hard thing to do. Conveying to them that you really weren’t feelinh them from the start, but wanted to get a try anyway. It’s real ‘messed up”.

3. Headache. Wow!! These Sistahs really touch all aspects of a relationship; the good, the bad, theups, and the downs. “Headahe” is one of those songs that make you stop in your tracks. The vocals alone send chills. These women can really mesh their talents like no others. Here is a song where in a relationship there tends to be turbulence but also uncertainty. He seems to be uncertain whether he wants to be with her or let her go. But, he doesn’t want her to be with anyone else and it’s giving her a HEADACHE and she has cried oceans of tears!!

2. Butterflies. This amazing, beautiful song was some of Marsha’s finest work. Her smooth vocals intertwined with Michael Jackson’s infamous skills made this song a tremendous hit. What a wonderful collaberation. It was included on the Floetic album as a demo and bonus track. But the demo alone had me hooked on the song. M.J. knows talent and music and new that he had a jewel with Marsha and no doubt this single would top the charts.

1. Say Yes. “Say Yes’ was # 24 on the U.S. Hot 100 charts and #8 on the U.S. R&B; charts in 2002. Each and every time I hear this song I just melt. It is so full of soul and lyrics that are so sensual that yo have to make everyone around you to shut and and listen. There should be no other sound when this song is playing. Set your mind, body, and heart free and let your feelings takeover. Just admit what you’re feeling and let love take over. Let that special person know exactly what you feel and don’t be afraid and let them know that they don’t have to be afraid either; to let the love that they have for each other be the only thing that matters.

These 10 songs help to express feelings that you didn’t even know you had. I believe that these gifted and talented women have done a wonderful job of helping the average person know just what to say, how to say it, and when to say it. Marsha and Natalie are unlike any other duo. Their talents mesh to create a feel and sound like no other. They put the “ou” in soul and the “flo” in Floetry. Their songs will go through history as legendary. This duo is my favorite of all times and my children love them as well. They are a part of my and their history. Let it flo’ Sistahs, lit it flo’!!
Unfortunately, on 12/6/06, the group did their final performance together. The Floacist, Natalie Stewart, is now replaced with Amanda Diva, former MTV2 personality.
