Top Ten Movie Quotes of All Time

Gina Gershon, Idina Menzel, Rental Truck

It’s impossible to watch a good movie without remembering specific lines or phrases. Of all of the movies that I have watched, these are my favorite of all time.

(1)QUOTE:

I bet you’ve had a hard time walking into a room full of people on your own, right? Yeah. I know that. I know what it is not to feel like your in the room until he looks at you or touches your hand or even makes a joke at your expense, just to let everyone know… you’re with him. You’re his.

Movie: P.S. I Love You

Patricia (Kathy Bates) to Holly (Hilary Swank) on moving on once the one you love is no longer by your side.

Why I Like This Quote: This quote to me, is that love that every girl (including me) is looking for. I think this quote is quite universal. You don’t have to lose someone to know the feeling of not being able to walk into a room alone…but then you see that one person, smiling towards you, and it all changes in an instant.

(2)QUOTE:

Denise Hennessey: [Denise is admiring Ted as he walks by] Ooohhh, he’s delicious isn’t he? I’d serve coffee on that a**.
John McCarthy: Do you have to be so vulgar about men? Like they’re pieces of meat?
Denise Hennessey: I’m sorry, John. I forgot you’re sensitive about your flat ass.
John McCarthy: You know, Denise, that’s why you’re not married. Women act like men. Then they complain men don’t want them.
Denise Hennessey: Oh, is that why? ‘Cause I thought it was something different. I thought that it was ’cause I deserved the best and he’s out there. He’s just with all the wrong women. And let me be clear. After CENTURIES of men looking at my t*ts

instead of my eyes and pinching my a** instead of shaking my hand, I now have the *DIVINE* right to stare at a man’s BACKSIDE with vulgar, cheap appreciation if I want to!
Sharon McCarthy: Well said!
Denise Hennessey: Yeah, well, I thought so.

Movie: P.S. I Love You

Denise (Lisa Kudrow), Sharon (Gina Gershon) and John (James Marsters) having a conversation in a bar.

Why I Like This Quote: I laugh every time that I hear this quote. Men have been talking about women in this fashion for ages, but when a woman acts this way towards a man, it all hits the fan. Double standards at their finest…

(3)QUOTE:

Lester Burnham: I feel like I’ve been in a coma for the past twenty years. And I’m just now waking up.

Movie: American Beauty

Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) when looking at this life.

Why I Like This Quote: One day you wake up and you look back at everything. You wonder how it all has passed you by and what you missed. You think that you must have been completely oblivious to it all. I have been there. I am just now to the “waking” point and it is refreshing, and wonderful and great!

(4)QUOTE:

Prime Minister: Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion love actually is all around.

Movie: Love, Actually

Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) on why he loves airports

Why I Like This Quote: We have become a society of people who are full of anger and hate. We judge people before they open their mouths. We make assumptions without having the evidence to back them up. There are so many wonderful things in the world, like love, actually, but we fail to realize it because we are too busy worried about the negative things.

(5)QUOTE:

Mimi: I’m looking for baggage that goes with mine.

Movie: Rent

Mimi Marquez (Rosario Dawson)

Why I Like This Quote: We all have expectations of others. We want the perfect man/woman/relationship/life. However, many of us don’t take in to consideration another person’s baggage because we have our own. We don’t want to add more. For me, I am looking for that someone that understands and can compliment my baggage. We all have it, why not match it?

(6)QUOTE:

Mimi: There’s only us, There’s only this, Forget regret, Or life is your to miss, No other road, No other way, No day but today.

Movie: Rent

Mimi Marquez (Rosario Dawson)

Why I Like This Quote: As lives continue and the days go on, people take advantage of the fact that today we are alive. There is always a chance that tomorrow may not come. We should all be more willing to live in the moment. This quote reminds me that I should not continue to put off things that are important to me, or things that could create great memories, after all, there is the chance that if I wait to long, they will never happen.

(7)QUOTE:

Maureen: [sung] I’ve gotta get outta here! It’s like I’m being tied to the hood of a yellow rental truck being packed in with fertilizer, and fuel oil. Pushed over a cliff by a suicidal Mickey Mouse. I’ve gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta find a way… to jump over the moon.

Maureen(Idina Menzel) performing.

Why I Like This Quote: There are those moments when you feel that the world is closing in on you. You are turning in circles, trying to find a way out. You feel trapped. Alone. Scared. You have to find a way out. Any way out. You just want to jump over the moon!

(8)QUOTE:

Joanne: [sings] Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes. Five hundred twenty-five thousand journeys to plan. Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes. How do you measure the life of a woman or a man?

Joanne (Tracie Thoms)

Why I Like This Quote: Sixty seconds in a minute. Sixty minutes in an hour. Twenty four hours in a day. Three hundred sixty five days in a year. Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes total. When you break it down it doesn’t seem like a lot. This quote reminds me that we need to fill our seconds, minutes and hours with things that matter most. We are only allotted so much time…it eventually runs out.

(9)QUOTE:

Elias: Since God created man, and man created the Transformers, the Transformers are like a gift from God, Randal!
Randal Graves: No sir. They are not a gift from God. They are an unholy curse from the beast we call the Desolate One.

Elias (Trevor Fehrman) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) talking about the Transformers.

Why I Like This Quote: We all have our own way of looking at things. There is always rationale behind what people think, you just have to take the time to listen to what they have to say…plus, this one makes me laugh!

(10)QUOTE:

Verbal: The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. And poof. Just like that, he’s gone.

Verbal/Keyser Soze (Kevin Spacey)

Why I Like This Quote: Because it is the most awesome line ever spoken in film.
