The Maryland Science Center will be a great time for the family and there is something for everyone on this educational and informative trip. Young boys will be attracted to the ever gross and disgusting things that happen inside the human body. Dial a germ, a phone you can call a germ and learn about that particular germ and what happens to it when it gets into your body. That in mind, walk through a waking chamber after sleeping on a real “bed of nails” and stand inside
a human heart and lungs and feel the rhythm your body makes as the heart and lungs do thier thing! One of the science centers exciting and most popular attraction is Newton’s Alley where you can actually touch a cloud, see a sound or convert your own energy into electricity. There’s so much fun and educational things going on at Newton’s Alley you just have to go and see for yourself. Get in touch with your “science and technology” side. For more information

You history buffs might want to check out Ft. McHenry. Over 600,000 visitors come to visit this historical national site. Best known for the war in1812, Fort McHenry was the inspiration behind Francis Scott Key’s poem, “The Star-Spangled Banner”, which eventually was turned into our USA’s national anthem. This fort has so much history but being there among the ruins of such a historical establishment would be better than my rambling. Fort McHenry was made into a national park in 1925 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15th, 1966. If you’re ever in Baltimore, Maryland and want to see something of historical significance relating to the many attacks on the fort, then you will not be disappointed by Ft. McHenry and the history it has to offer its visitors. Hey, you may even see a ghost or two while you’re visiting the Fort, actually James McHenry, who the fort was named after, is said to be wandering the grounds so be careful not to “bump” into him. Another historical site, although a very short visit is the Edgar Allen Poe House. I’ve driven by it a few times and there’s not much to it but a small plaque on the outside of the house which has some writing about the famous poet and his home he lived in with his grandmother, aunt, and cousin (who later became his wife). Inside are a few artifacts which include his writing lap desk he used while attending the University of Virginia. Though little to see, if you love the poet you will enjoy the brief visit to his house where he lived from 1932 to 1935. His grave is about a 1/2 mile from the house so a visit here is worth your while as well. They are located at the Westminster Hall and Burial Grounds
519 W Fayette St
Baltimore, MD 21201-1768
Phone: (410) 706-2072
They are open between 8:00a.m. and Dusk.

Also, if you plan on visiting the Poe House, make sure you bring someone and do not walk to the house. It is not in the best of areas but going during the day shouldn’t be a problem.
