Top Five WWE Matches Between John Cena and the Big Show

At the WWE Over the Limit PPV, The Big Show appeared during the John Cena and John Laurinaitis main event, turned on Cena and delivered his WMD finisher. This is another renewed rivalry between the two stars that has spanned for several years in the WWE.

At No Way Out on June 17, 2012, The Big Show is challenging John Cena to another match that will extend their rivalry and add to their long collection of matches. Five matches have stood out from their various battles, including multiple WWE Championship matches.

Wrestlemania XX – United States Championship

John Cena’s first Wrestlemania match was also the opening match of Wrestlemania XX. The Big Show and Cena had been feuding on Friday Night Smackdown for several months. Cena was very impressive in the match even though Big Show controlled most of it. The main highlight were the two Attitude Adjustment finishers that Cena hit on the Big Show. One pin later and Cena celebrated with his newly won US Championship.

WWE No Way Out 2004 – Triple Threat Number One Contender’s Match

One month before their encounter at Wrestlemania XX, John Cena and The Big Show were involved in a Triple Threat Match with Kurt Angle at the No Way Out PPV. In many ways this match was better than their Wrestlemania XX match because it had a quicker pace, better in-ring psychology and a lot of great moments that kept the crowd heavily into it. Kurt Angle ended up winning the match by making Cena tap out.

WWE Raw May 25, 2009 – Ten Man Tag Team Match

In a match dubbed the Los Angeles Lakers vs. The Denver Nuggets, ten WWE superstars wore NBA jerseys in this huge Raw main event battle. The Big Show represented the Nuggets along with The Miz, Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes. John Cena teamed up with Mr. Kennedy, MVP, Batista and Jerry Lawler in bright yellow Lakers jerseys.

Even though Mr. Kennedy had a few botched moments during the match, the rest of the WWE Superstars were impressive. MVP scored the pin victory for the Lakers while Cena and Batista celebrated by delivering a suplex to the massive Big Show as WWE Raw came to a close.

Extreme Rules 2009 – Submission Match

At the 2009 Backlash PPV, the Big Show interfered in the Edge and John Cena Last Man Standing Match. He grabbed Cena by the neck and choke slammed him through a large spotlight in a shocking moment that left the crowd in awe. The two feuded for the next couple of months with the culmination occurring at the Extreme Rules PPV in a Submission Match.

The Big Show usually relies on strength and power to win matches, so it was interesting to see him apply various submission moves on Cena during this bout. Cena eventually overcame the Big Show and made him tap out using the ring ropes to help him lock in the STF submission.

WWE Wrestlemania XXV – Triple Threat World Heavyweight Championship

Edge and Big Show were friends that turned enemies leading into Wrestlemania XXV. Before their singles match was confirmed, John Cena blackmailed Vickie Guerrero into letting him join the match to make it a Triple Threat battle.
