Top 5 Movies Starring Meryl Streep

Julia Child

Meryl Streep is of the world’s best actors. I am a big fan of her especially for the reason that she can actually put life into any kind of character. In this article, I have listed 5 movies, which have displayed full acting potential of Meryl Streep through extremely diversified roles.

Holocaust (1978)

In the movie, Holocaust Meryl portrays the role of Inga Helms Weiss who is a Christian young woman married to a Jewish man. Her character is helpless when her husband and family are taken away to the concentration camps. Meryl’s acting in this movie is simply flawless and makes one doubt is anyone else could have done justice to the role of Inga Helms Weiss.

Kramer vs. Kramer (1979)

In the movie, Kramer vs. Kramer, Meryl Streep performs the role of the wife of a workaholic spouse and a toddler son. The plot of the movie revolves around the identity issues among the couples and their sudden change of life when they are not a couple anymore. Meryl Streep’s performance as Joanna Kramer is just spectacular. She successfully plays the role of a wife and mother struck in midst of identity crisis, splitting relationship and eventually a mother fighting for the custody rights of a toddler son.

Mamma Mia (2008)

Many people think that Mamma Mia was made only to use the once popular songs of the band ABBA. However, the movie does have a plot and Meryl’s acting highlights it so well. In this movie, Meryl plays the role of a middle aged woman, Donna who has struggled hard to raise a daughter by raising income from a lousy hotel where tourists rarely come to stay. In a unique way, the daughter’s wedding preparations and celebrations become the time for Donna when her old passions, which she thought, have died while raising a child, rekindle again. Meryl beautifully plays the role of Donna in this musical romantic comedy. Seeing Meryl in this movie is sure-fire way to add color and vibrancy in an otherwise dull day.

Julie and Julia (2009)

In this movie Meryl plays the role of America’s one of the most renowned and respected food’s figurehead, Julia Child. Julia Child had several very specific mannerisms and accent, which many people would agree are very hard to play onscreen. However, Streep pulls this off with perfection. Julia’s character, style of talking, kitchen mannerisms, her relationship with friends and husband is displayed so naturally, convincingly and vividly that it leaves the audience in awe for Meryl’s acting potential.

It’s Complicated (2009)

Meryl plays Jane in this movie. Jane is a well-settled divorced woman with three grownup children who owns a bakeshop. The divorce happened 10 years ago and it seems the she and Jake (Jane’s ex-husband), both have ‘figured it out’ really well and are on amicable terms. The things really get complicated when an affair starts between them after a drunken fling. Meryl’s acting in this movie is really a treat to anyone interested in relationship and divorce movies.
