Top 5 Hot Sauces: Blazin’ Saddle, Frank’s Red Hot, Cholula, Texas Pete and Louisiana Hot Sauce

Hot Sauce

Hi. I’ve been a hot sauce freak for some time now. Actually, I wouldn’t qualify myself as a hot sauce freak. I could quit at any time. The sauce has no effect on me. I’m here to prove that to my family. They say they want their father back. I say I was never gone.

Hi. I’ve been a hot sauce freak for some time now. It’s only been a day since my last hit, but the anguish is unbearable. I don’t think I can take it much longer. I see hot sauce in my sleep. I see cayenne peppers dancing in the streets. I’m ashamed to admit it, but this morning I dreamed that my wife was a bottle of Frank’s Red Hot. I don’t know how to say this, but I was disappointed when I finally awoke. I miss you hot sauce – I will never forget.

Hi. I’ve been a hot sauce freak for some time now. It’s been 48 hours since my last hit of the good stuff. I mean hot sauce. I’m trying to be strong for my wife, and to set a good example for the little ones, but sometimes I catch myself shaking uncontrollably in a cold sweat. At my worst, I can almost taste it; I can feel its burning love on my tongue. I know it’s for the best, but I can’t help but wonder when it will all be over. When will this lustful feeling go away?

Hi. I’ve been a hot sauce freak for some time now. I know it’s addictive and sometimes painful and possibly even detrimental to my health, but I just can’t stop the craving. I guess I’m weak, but I’m sorry, I just can’t, I mean I won’t, stop. I know that I am many things, but I am not a quitter! That sweet fiery sensation, the titillating burning mixture of flavors all dancing around my pallet. I cannot stop. I will not stop searching for the one hot sauce that will put all other sauces to shame.

I am proud to say that I am a hot sauce freak. Over the years I have tried my fair share of hot sauces. I’ve had them so hot that to brush a small portion on your tongue would set it ablaze for 20 minutes; the ones that require a signature releasing liability before purchase. I have had sauces that are little more than Tobasco sauce and water. What I’m trying to say is that throughout my trials I have managed to narrow my list of favorites down to five. All five of these are commercially available at most grocery stores. What I want to do is share them with you. Every hot sauce has its place, and every food has its hot sauce.

The Five Best Hot Sauces (in no particular order)

1. Blazin’ Saddle – goes well with steak or makes a great Bloody Mary

2. Frank’s Red Hot – good on just about anything; makes the best hot wings

3. Cholula – a staple for any Mexican food; use in heavy doses

4. Texas Pete – goes best with breakfast foods such as eggs and sausage

5. Louisiana Hot Sauce – use with lighter foods; a great way to spice up your salad

Those are my favorites, my tried and true. They will always be on my kitchen counter near the stove and on my table. I will never abandon the search for the greatest hot sauce of all time. I am certain that it’s out there, and if not, then I will create it.

Below is just a fun list. These are some of the hottest hot sauces in the world. I have also listed their Scoville Units. For anyone not familiar with Scoville Units, they are the units in which heat is measured in a pepper. Put simply, it is the water units it would take to cancel out one unit of heat. Example: A sauce with 1,000 Scoville Units of heat would take 1,000 drops of water to disperse the heat of one drop of sauce.

Just so you know, 16,000,000 Scoville Units is pure capsaicin (the chemical which produces heat in peppers), and that’s as hot as it gets. (As a reference, Tobasco Sauce is a mere 2,500 Scoville Units.)
