Top 5 Flowers for a Spring Wedding

Anemones, Floral Arrangements, Peonies, Spring Weddings

Choosing flowers that are in season at the time of your wedding can help save a lot of money on your floral arrangements. You may even be able to take some flowers from your own garden or a family member’s garden as a DIY approach to save money and make your arrangements more personal and memorable.

Anemones are type of buttercup that looks more like a poppy. They can be shades of blue, purple, pink, red, and white. My personal favorites are the white with a navy/black center. These look beautiful in a simple bouquet by themselves or paired with ranunculus. If you have a bigger budget for a bouquet, you could also add roses. For table decorations, a posy of anemones would look beautiful displayed in an antique Ball jar or vintage tea cups.

Delphinium is available in blue and white. They look great in blue and white flower arrangements and bouquets. Blue delphinium makes a great accent to white roses and/or white calla lilies.

Peonies are one of my absolute favorite flowers. They are available in pinks, white, burgundy, and yellows. It’s a challenge to find a flower that peonies do not look stunning with. They look great alone, paired with ranunculus, roses, or sweet peas. The blooms smell amazing and they are large and luxurious making them great for bouquets and flower arrangements.

Ranunculus is also known as a Persian Buttercup. They almost resemble a rose, but have no thorns. They are available in a wide variety of colors including purple, pink, white, yellow, red, and orange. They look beautiful in a bouquet and the stems are fairly thick so one to three blooms in a thin vase can make a great decoration for tables.

Tulips are going to be everywhere in spring which is what kept daffodils off of the top 5 list. The saving grace of tulips is the variety of colors that they come in including white, pink, red, yellow, and purple. As a general rule I think tulips look best on their own with a group of the same color or a combination of two different colors of tulips. They look great in a bouquet or in a simple glass vase.

Other Flowers in Season for Spring Weddings
Bells of Ireland can add a nice green accent to your floral arrangements. Casa Blanca Lilies and Star Gazer Lilies are beautiful and in season, but generally aren’t good for bouquets because dark pollen can easily be transferred to the wedding dress making a huge mess. Daffodils are everywhere in the spring so it takes a lot to spice them up enough to look good for a wedding. Lilacs come in violet and white, they’re beautiful and smell amazing, but their large size can be hard to work with for a bouquet. Sweet pea is in season and makes a nice accent in white, pink, or purple. Calla lilies, orchids, and roses are always in season and all great in wedding floral arrangements.
