Top 5 Fire House Themed Games for Children’s Birthday Parties

Bean Bags, Fire Fighting, Party Game Ideas, Pbj

Are you planning a children’s birthday party with a fire house theme? If so, you may want to consider using a few of my fire house themed party game ideas. Here they are:

Fireman’s Obstacle Course Race

Are you looking for a fire house themed game idea that will help the kids burn off some energy? Then you may want to think about holding a fireman’s race. I would suggest that you add to the fun by having the kids run through an obstacle course that includes having them stop long enough to don a fireman’s uniform.

You may opt to purchase a ready-made fire fighter’s costume through a major department store or costume shop for less than $30 or make your own. In order to make your own, you’ll need a sweat suit ($20 each), a fire fighter’s hat ($8 per dozen) and some glow-in-the-dark duct tape ($14 a roll). Just add strips of glow-in-the-dark duct tape to the sweat suit to simulate fire fighting gear. You might also want to include a toy fire extinguisher ($30) and rain boots ($20) as part of the outfit.

Fire Fighter’s Extinguisher Game

Remember how much fun it was to play the water balloon race at your local county fair? Why not recreate some of that excitement by having a fire fighter’s version of the game? The goal of the game could be to knock down more targets than any other party guest. The targets could be made to resemble flames and burning buildings.

In order to set the game up, you will need to purchase a set of fireman themed backpack water blasters and some targets that the kids can shoot at. You’ll also need a banquet or picnic table that you can use to hold the targets. In my experience, the fireman’s backpack water blasters will tend to cost you $18 each through most toy stores. The targets you can make yourself out of plastic cups or empty soda cans and card stock ($5). Once you have the targets, simply line them up onto a table. Then give the kids the water guns, stand back and enjoy the laughter that’s sure to ensue.

Burning Ember

The burning ember game is a fireman’s version of hot potato. In order to play the game, you’ll need a faux burning ember and a fire siren soundtrack. I’d suggest that you consider using a red or black bean bag as the burning ember. Most party and carnival supply shops sell a dozen bean bags for less than $11. If you don’t have bean bags, a rolled up pair of clean socks will suffice.

Instruct the kids to get into a circle. Then have them toss the burning ember to each other in a clock-wise direction while the fire siren soundtrack plays in the background. When the music stops, the child that has the burning ember in their hand has to leave the circle. Continue the game until only one child remains. That remaining child will be deemed the winner.

Fireman’s Hose Race

Holding a fireman’s hose race is another option worth considering. In order to play the game, you will need two long garden hoses. Unroll the hoses all across the lawn and then challenge the kids to roll up the hoses as fast as they can. The child that rolls up his or her fire fighter’s hose first wins.

Fire Fighter’s Rescue Game

Part of being a fire fighter is rescuing people right? Well, why not create a scarecrow of out old clothes and have the kids rescue it? You could hide the scarecrow somewhere in the yard or house and ask the kids to look for it. The first child to find the scarecrow and bring it to a designated safe area wins. If you want, you could hide multiple scarecrows or dolls and give a prize to the person that rescues the most “people” instead.
