While I could list those classic rock ballads and easily assemble a list of ten great love rock songs, do you really need to read another list containing Guns ‘N Roses “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” on it? My list of top ten rock love songs leans more toward alternative/pop punk rock, some tunes might even be a bit sappy and whiny, but I promise I won’t go all emo on you.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Matchbook Romance-Tiger Lily

This isn’t one that you can rock out to, but it is a beautiful love song by a rock band nonetheless. If you are looking to recapture that feeling of the young and innocent love that you shared in high school, then this tune will help get you there.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Head Automatica-Beating Hearts Baby

Whenever I hear this one I just want to dance around my bedroom, flailing my arms all around like a crazy woman. This one definitely captures the wild energy that we usually feel in a turbulent and obsessive relationship.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Dashboard Confessional-Hands Down

I’m a sucker for any man singing all the words that I wish a boy would have said to me in high school, not to mention all the talk about sneaking around that brings back lots of high school relationship memories.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Weezer-I’m Just a Teenage Dirtbag Baby

This one is a great mixture of rockin’ out and layin’ low, it reminds me how it felt to crush on someone who didn’t seem to even know I existed. Besides, what could be better than a rock love song that mentions another rock band like Iron Maiden?

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Motion City Soundtrack-The Future Freaks Me Out

I love listening to this and remembering the almost manic feeling of desperately needing whomever I had feelings for, for that week anyway, in high school. And the best is definitely, “Oh Betty won’t you–oh, fuck it!” When do you ever get comedy like that in a song, especially in a love song?

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Bowling for Soup-Girl All the Bad Guys Want

This has all the longing you would look for in a rock love song, with a bit of a twist of course. The title says it all, there isn’t longing for the supermodel in the magazine, instead he wants Nona, a nose ring wearing, wrestling watching, rap metal listening rocker chic. This is a true rocker rock love song, at least in subject matter.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Fountains of Wayne- Stacy’s Mom

Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s corny, and it’s pop punk rock to the fullest, but you have to admire the twist it lends to the idea of a rock love song. There is no mushy declarations of love, rather, there is a boy who harbors a crush for, not Stacy, his peer, but her mother. It might be a little twisted, but it is definitely in my top ten list of rock love songs.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs:Matchbox 20- Damn

I had to put a Matchbox 20 one on the list for 2 reasons: Matchbox 20 blows my socks off musically, and Rob Thomas is a heartthrob. The feelings that you can hear coming through Thomas’s voice is a rare thing in music today. “Damn” is my all-time favorite Matchbox 20 song. The meaning isn’t super clear, like many Matchbox 20 songs, but it appears to have a rough connection to love and when you combine that with Rob Thomas’s ability to make the ladies swoon, I think that makes this song more than worthy of being on my top ten rock songs list.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Fallout Boy-Sugar We’re Going Down

So, it’s little creepy, but sometimes you need a love tune about the downsides of love. Sometimes you wish you could say to someone, “I’m just a notch in your bedpost, but you’re just a line in a song.” I love songs that are about scorn and the like.

Top Ten Rock Love Songs: Plain White Ts-Hey There Delilah

After hearing the story behind this song (if you haven’t heard the story yet, do a Google search), I had to put it on my list of top ten rock love songs. Plus, I adore the name Delilah.

Okay, there you have it, my top ten list. It might use the definition of “rock” more liberally than you might have expected, but these are the ones I listen to when I am in a love kind of mood.
