80's Rock, Brian May, Freddie Mercury

The rock group known as Queen erupted into stardom in the 1970’s. This group became well known for their unique style of music and their own creative style. I knew that I was hearing a type of music that was different, beautiful, strong and it just rocked. Rocked you. Rocked you to the core. Hear are my picks for the top 10 best Queen songs.

1. Keep Yourself Alive. This song was the first Queen song I heard. It was played on all the rock radio stations in the 1970’s and though it may not be as popular as other Queen songs, it is one of their first hits. Take a trip back into time and give this song a listen. It heralds the brilliant start of a one of a kind band’s musical career.

2. Killer Queen. Never had I heard a song like this. It bent the mind with it’s colorful lyrics and cool beat, along with fantastic guitar playing. This song certainly got your attention! Either you loved it or you hated it. I loved it and celebrated the creativeness.

3. Bohemian Rhapsody. This Freddie Mercury/Brian May creation of a song hit heaven. It was rock. It was opera. It was cool. Very cool. 4. We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions. A famous intro and an even more famous rock song. We Are The Champions is one of Queen’s most popular songs and it’s popularity reached worldwide. This incredible song became a stadium and sports arena anthem. It sings of strength and winning. We can relate. These are two separate songs but, I always want to hear both played together. They belong that way, I think. Yes, Freddie Mercury was thinking about football when he wrote this song. How about that? This song is certainly a champion of a song! It is a favorite of mine and is worthy of a place in my top 10 best Queen songs! This song is on the “News Of The World” album. Hey, I still listen to vinyl. I love it.

5. Another One Bites The Dust. OK. This song made all sit up and really, I mean really take notice of the band Queen. Released in 1980, it instantly became not only one of the best selling Queen songs but, it hit number 1 on the Billboard charts. It does not get much better than that. This rock song has one of the most wickedest beats that I may ever hear. It is a machine gun fire of a rock song that blasts past all of the rest. It is a bullet. Tough song and it lets you know that this band has strength, talent, determination and incredible talent. Unforgettable rock. This song is on “The Game” CD. This happens to be my favorite CD by this band. I guess it signaled the true start of 80’s rock, in my opinion. Different and majestic. But, then, they are Queen. Your majesty. Really. What a cool song. I dare you to try to be still while listening to Another One Bites The Dust. I’d win. You will move. True rock.

This is a brilliant musical collaboration between David Bowie and Queen. The duo is powerful. They give this song their all, their heart and such creativity. This song is on the “Hot Space” CD.

9. Radio Ga Ga. Well, now, this song gives the opinion of the radio play list and , someone, is not too pleased. Actually, Roger Taylor’s son Felix was overheard saying “radio ca ca” and this song resulted. It is humor, fun and silliness, all rolled into a song. At first, I hated this song. Then I saw the humor in it, finally. Kids can be so brilliant. Truly. I credit Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and yes, Felix and Roger Taylor for having the balls and courage to record this cute song.
