Toilet Removal in 10 Easy Steps

Whether you want to fix a broken or leaking toilet, everyone is looking for a way to avoid those plumbers fees and learn how to fix their own toilets at home. Home repair can be made easy if you have something to help guide you through the process. So here is how you can remove your toilet in ten easy steps.

You will first need to shut the water off. This can be found just right behind the toilet bowl near the wall. It looks like a handle. You will want to turn this off with a pair of pliers if it is to hard to turn.

When you have the toilet turned off you will want to flush the toilet make sure to do this a couple of times because you want to get as much of the water out of the bowl and out the tank before you remove it. The best thing to do is remove the lid off the tanks so that you can keep an eye on how much water is left in there. Then once there is barely any water left in the toilet bowl and the tank, you will want to get either a sponge or an old towels and wipe out the inside both the toilet bowl and the tank. If you do not do this when you remove the tank and toilet bowl they will have a toilet leaking all over the floor.

Once you are totally sure that all the water is out of the toilet you want to unscrew the tank. The screws for the tank is located right underneath the back brim of the toilet bowl.This may be difficult once again if they are rusted, so you night want to get your pliers to get the screws lose. Be very careful with this because you do not want to strip the screws out or you will not be able to turn them.

When you get the screws off you will want to disconnect all the water lines from the toilet. Be careful when doing this you do not want to break any of these hoses or you will have to go out and get replacements which cost you more money in the long run.

Then when everything is disconnected from the toilet bowl you want to take the tank off the toilet bowl. You want to put the tank aside whiles you work on the rest of the toilet. When putting the tank down make sure that it is put onto a flat surface because these are very easy to break as well as the tanks lid.

Now it is time for you to work on the toilet bowl. First thing that you want to is get the surface all around the bottom of the toilet clean because really who knows what is all under there. Make sure to get it as clean as you possibly can.

Then you will want to remove the caps that are located at the base of the toilet in the back. You want to remove these so that you can remove the screws to the toilet bowl. Once you have the caps off , which you can remove with a flat head screw driver. Then you will want to remove all the screws. If these are on there tight you might want to use the pliers again to get them loosen up.

Now that you have all the screws removed here is were it gets fun. You will want to remove the toilet bowl from the floor and make sure to lift it straight up. If you cannot lift the toilet bowl straight up by yourself you might want to have a second person with you to help. Then you will want to make sure to lay the toilet bowl on it’s side. Do not put it down the same way you picked it up because there is a greasy sticky stuff on the bottom from were the toilet was sitting on the gasket and if you set it straight down this will come off the toilet and onto your floor.

Lastly you will want to remove all that greasy sticky mess from the base of the toilet bowl using a putty Knife. Make sure to get it all the way off because if there is any left on it, when you put the toilet back on the gasket it will not seal properly and you will have again another leaky toilet.

Once you have done all this you will have to repeat these steps backwards to put your toilet back on. There you have it ten easy steps to help you with your toilet installation.
