Tips for Painting a Child’s Bedroom

Child's Bedroom, Girl's Bedroom, Kid's Bedroom, Tips for Painting

Kid’s bedrooms should be both a fun place as well as a place for kid’s to relax and rest. Paint choices are various, and can make a huge impact on a room. Painting is in fact, the most affordable way to transform a room.

Before painting your child’s bedroom, talk with your child. Find you what he or she would like. Paint is generally an easy weekend project, so don’t worry too much about painting the room in a way they will like 5 or 10 years from now. Children change from year to year, so you might want to plan on re-painting every other year. Give the child something they can enjoy now, they are only young once!

Some ideas for painting kid’s bedrooms include:

1. Paint with bright colors

Make sure the paint is washable and choose a fun, bright color. If the room is big, you can afford to go with a little darker shade if you want. If the room is small, it is best to stick to light and bright, reflective paints. Painting the ceiling a solid color other than white can be detrimental to room. Painting small designs or stars on the ceiling, however, will work in all rooms.

2. Paint each wall a different color.

For example, for a girl’s bedroom, you may want to paint two walls pink and two walls purple. This is a great idea if the child cannot decide on one color. For a boy’s room, you can choose a blue/grey combination, or a red/blue combination. Kid’s love to have multiple colors!

3. Paint different colors on the top and bottom.

To balance out the room, if you choose to paint with this design, paint the lighter color on top and the darker shade on the bottom. This is another way to paint the child’s bedroom with two different colors, but has a little more “sophisticated” feel to the room.

4. Paint with geometrical designs.

Another way to use more than one color is to paint the walls first with a solid color, and then paint geometrical shapes around the room. Large diamond shapes make nice wall designs, and with a contrasting color can make quite a statement! The best example of this I saw was in a girl’s bedroom. The walls were a solid purple color, and a light green paint was used for the diamonds. The result was stunning, and everyone commented on it.

5. Paint a mural.

If you are creative enough, or know someone who is, this is a great unique design to child’s bedroom. A painted mural offers up quite a statement, and can provide a wonderful backdrop to a child with an imagination. Whether it is a princess scene, or a castle and dragons theme, children can use the mural to inspire their imaginations. If you can’t paint a mural, try contacting a local college and offering to pay a college art student to do one.

Children’s bedrooms should be painted according to each child. There is no right or wrong way. The key is to find what works for each child and family, and be creative! Painting a kid’s bedroom should be an enjoyable experience with great results in the end! .
