When your baby’s cold gets so bad he begins using your shoulder as a tissue, it can get pretty gross. Not only that, but your child may have a hard time feeding because of his congested nose and that cough sounds awful! When my daughter has a cold (which is probably once a month!), there are three great products for easing your baby’s cold symptoms.
Nasal Aspirator
If your little munchkin’s nose has turned into a Niagra Falls and he is using you as the world’s biggest tissue, a nasal aspirator is a wise investment. Avoid the infamous snot-bulb, especially if they don’t twist open to clean. I recently cut open my baby’s bulb to find a host of black mold growing inside! One of the best affordable “snot suckers” on the market is the Nosefrida. It’ll be the grossest thing you’ve ever loved. One end of the tub is the applicator you stick up your baby’s nose and on the other end is the mouth piece you use to suck the boogers out. Yes, you just read that correctly. But, the important thing is it works!
Humidifier
Moist air is great for colds. If you have a dehumidifier running like we do, turn it off. Better yet, get a humidifier for your baby’s nursery and place it right next to her crib. They have some pretty high-end ones available to purchase, but the Safety 1st Soothing Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier does the job just fine for your sick infant or toddler. For less than $30, you can’t go wrong with this brand.
Vick’s Waterless Vaporizer
Not only does this scented plug-in release that soothing menthol fragrance into the air to clear congestion, but it also doubles as a pretty nifty night-light. Another thing I like about this product is there is no mess involved – you just place a scented little strip inside the lid before your baby goes to bed and that’s it! Let the magic happen. I even use it when I get sick.
