The World’s Top 10 Unsolved Mysteries

Unsolved Mysteries, Zodiac Killer

The human mind can be an extremely useful tool but it can also be very puzzling at times. It seems that for every new discovery that is made there remains events that will always be unknown to the world. I’m sure that some may disagree with my opinion but here are the top 10 unsolved mysteries of the world.

10. Sailing Stones

If you travel down to Racetrack Playa around Death Valley one can witness the sailing stones. These rocks are known to move across the ground leaving a trail in their path. These are said to be done very slowly and over a long period of time. A true explanation for how this happens has been up for debate over the years and therefore it remains one of the top 10 unsolved mysteries.

9. Roswell, New Mexico

This small town in New Mexico is home to one of the most interesting UFO incidents in the world. In 1947 there was numerous reports of a crashed alien aircraft having been recovered by the United States military. The Air Force itself initially reported that they had recovered a flying saucer and then took that statement back saying they were wrong because it was just a weather balloon.

What keeps this story fresh is the sheer amount of eye witness accounts that have came out over the years as people die and leave behind stories and documents. Many high profile military and government figures have claimed in their later years that there was in fact a UFO and also alien bodies at Roswell. The lack of proof though is what keeps it on our top 10 unsolved mysteries list.

8. The John F. Kennedy Assassination

7. The Loch Ness Monster

I’m sure at some point most people have heard of either Nessie or The Loch Ness Monster. There have been numerous movies on the subject and it often pops up in the news from time to time. The story is that supposedly there is a prehistoric water creature that inhabits this inland water source and will surface from time to time to pay a visit to local swimmers or fishermen. The tale took a hit when a local conspirator was caught faking the sightings for personal gain.

6. Bigfoot

One of the most popular unsolved mysteries here in the United States is about the legendary creature known as bigfoot. It’s also known as yeti, skunk ape and sasquatch depending on the region. The range and amount of sightings made this creature something to at least be considered by officials.

5. The Zodiac Killer

The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer whom operated in California during the 1960’s and 1970’s. The reason this makes our list of the top 10 unsolved mysteries is for the fact that this killer remain unidentified despite leaving evidence and notes behind at the murders. The madman killed 4 men and 3 women most of which were young adults. While the case has been re-opened recently there aren’t any new developments.

4. Bermuda Triangle

Also known as the Devil’s Triangle this is a spot in the Atlantic Ocean where numerous ships and aircraft have been known to mysteriously go missing in the past. Even though this is thought of as one of the most interesting of the top 10 unsolved mysteries many experts feel it’s blown out of proportion. They say that due to the sheer volume of travel in that region the amount of a disappearances are the same as most other regions of the sea.

3. Jack the Ripper

Out of all the items here on our top 10 unsolved mysteries list this perhaps could be my favorite. I think that perhaps the appeal to this mystery is the description of the serial killer at that era in London. It lends one to imagine a figure dressed in black wearing a cape and wielding several sharp cutting instruments. The victims were prostitutes which also adds a bit of flair to the story as well.

Over the years there have been countless fictional stories and movies made about Jack the Ripper. Many of which take educated guesses about the identity of the killer. Of the most popular include some royalty such as Prince Albert Victor and also Sir John Williams both men with means and education thought necessary to perform the murders.

2. The Lost City of Atlantis
